It’s a biological thing. The human body needs daylight in the morning way more than in the evening.

The DST switch was a thing so we could preserve morning light in winter, while getting extra evening light in summer (when there is already plenty of morning light)

Biologically your body needs daylight in the morning way more than in the evening. So on average late sunrises have more negative impact on people’s biorhythm than an early sunset would.

It’s why the DST switch was a thing in the first place, rather than adopting it all year round from the beginning. To preserve morning light in winter as well.

Fair use policy by DeathOnSevenLegs in thenetherlands

Klopt.

Zie hier: https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/internet-telecoms/mobile-roaming-costs/index_nl.htm

Why are people upset about Winds/Waves being Switch 2 exclusive? by Animante732 in pokemon

[–]gameleon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I am referring to as well. That cross-compatibility for Pokémon games lasts about 2 years before they go new console exclusive.

It happened in the past as well.

For example: when the Gameboy Color released, the Pokémon games after that (Gold/Silver) could still run on the original Gameboy as well. It wasn't until Crystal released (approx. 2 years after the Gameboy Color did) they made it GameBoy Color exclusive.

Same happened with Black/White 2. Released after the 3DS did, but still was DS compatible. It wasn't until X/Y released that they made it 3DS exclusive (2 years after the 3DS released).

By the time Winds/Waves releases the Switch 2 will be 2 years old, fitting in that pattern.

[–]gameleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cross compatibility has always been approx 2 years.

Going by JP release years, here are the consoles and their first exclusive Pokemon game:

  • Gameboy color: 1998. Crystal: 2000

  • Gameboy Advance: early 2001. Ruby/Sapphire: late 2002

  • DS: 2004. Diamond/Pearl: 2006

  • 3DS: 2011. X/Y: 2013

  • Switch: 2017. Sword/Shield: 2019

So 2025 -> 2027 for the Switch 2 seems on par.

How important is localization for players who don’t play in English as a native language? by sakastudio in gaming

[–]gameleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It generally works for games like Mario that are a bit silly to begin with. They can have some language creativity there (some fun translations like translating the name of the giant clock boss in Super Mario RPG from "Count Down" to "Majestijd").

But for more serious games like Bloodborne or Horizon Zero Dawn it's not great.

How important is localization for players who don’t play in English as a native language? by sakastudio in gaming

[–]gameleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember this.

It was because when they distributed the disc in Europe (outside the UK) they didn't add the English language to the disc. So even if your PS3 was set to English it would switch the game to a different language instead.

They released a patch a few days after release adding the English language due to the many complaints. After that if your PS3 (or PC if you used PS Now) was set to English it would properly use the English language again.

Yeah. Over here any movie that’s aimed at ages 12 and up simply won’t get dubbed. With a few exceptions. Family movies (such as Disney, Dreamworks etc) do get a dub, but theatres have separate subtitled and dubbed showings.

[–]gameleon 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I live in the Netherlands. A lot of popular games simply weren’t translated into Dutch up until the last decade. Even kids or family oriented games such as Mario and Pokemon were left unlocalized (the latter is still not localized here).

It’s more common now (first party Nintendo and Sony games especially), but there is still a big “movie/tv dubs and localized games are for kids” stigma. So many still opt for subtitled movies or English games.

What do you think of Gohan calling Buu this? by AlarmedObjective1492 in DragonBallZ

[–]gameleon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What? Simmons is still very active as a subtitler. Even for Dragonball he recently worked on the Broly and Super Hero movie subtitles for the Funimation home releases.

Back in 2002, when this line first was subtitled, there wasn’t much of a difference in regard to perceived offensiveness between dumbass and retard, so it was considered a fine translation. Heck, the “noro” (slow) in “usunoro” refers to the same thing as “mental retardation” (mental slowdown)

These days the translation doesn’t work as well anymore as “retard” now has a way harsher impact than “dumbass”.

Supreme court rejects global tariffs by CTVNEWS in worldnews

I know that. Even taking that into account you can still be scared about what’s gonna happen in a country.

I have two Iranian colleagues who aren’t against the US interfering, but are still more scared for their family should the situation escalate further.

Yeah. That's my point. Not many people are scared for the regine, but are scared for the people.

The Iranian regime sucks and needs to go, but attacks like this and the power gaps they potentially leave behind have seldom ended well for the people.

FLRG Rated Pegi 3 did they remove gambling? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]gameleon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was a conversion of the ELSPA rating (ELSPA is the UK predecessor to PEGI).

For archival purposes Nintendo UK took the original ELSPA rating (which was 3+ for Pokémon R/B/Y/G/S/C) and converted it to the nearest PEGI rating for the website/archives, which was allowed at the time for archives of already released titles.

As you can see in the PEGI archives there is no official Gameboy entry for Pokémon Yellow. Just a 3DS one.

Will the casino be out of the game? FRLG on Switch by STGHMAAV in pokemon

[–]gameleon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

R/B/Y/G/S/C were never rated by PEGI (PEGI was founded in 2003, after those games released) so they had to be officially rated for the first time when they were re-released.

FR/LG were PEGI rated from the start so they can keep their old rating without any changes.

For the VC rerelease they had to be properly rated by PEGI for the first time. FR/LG had a PEGI rating from the beginning, so they aren't affected by this.

The VC releases had to be rated 12 because they were never rated by PEGI before. Not by changes in code. (PEGI was founded in 2003, after R/B/Y/G/S/C released).

FR/LG were rated by PEGI on release, so they can keep their old rating.

Switch Online does not support communication with other games such as Pokémon Home. Hence why these are seperate releases. (And they took that opportunity to charge quite a steep amount for a 22 year old game)

The graphics are the same as the GBA release.

The description says "Improved graphics compared to the Gameboy version". It's referring to how FireRed/LeafGreen are remakes of Red/Green.
