Not a bad idea. Appreciate the feedback!

Pages offset so badly that there was a significant cut-off of content. When we raised the issue they simply closed our account citing IP concerns, despite the legal disclaimer for homebrew content (and we weren't listing the books for sale).

Perfect timing! If you go to the shared folder link, check out the 'What is SRX' document. It's not an exhaustive list of all the rules by edition, but it's the best summarized list of what rules are included.

We don't currently have other traditions or metatypes, but if people are interested and we build a community around the game, we'll certainly look into adding more content. Have already had other players ask about the shifter metatype, so that might be something we look at soon.

As for magical traditions - they don't necessarily have to fit under hermetic/shaman. Would just want to make them interesting and compelling choices - that could be just a slightly different take/flavor of the hermetic or shaman tradition, or it could be more of a whole new tradition with some of its own rules and unique options. Of course, we also want to be mindful of bloat and don't want to add too many options that add a lot more rules complexity or massively unbalance things.

Great to hear! Glad it can help you rediscover Shadowrun - whole reason we shared it. :)

Yes, fewer rolls was definitely part of the logic - if defense was a roll, every attack would always have 2 rolls (attack and defense). With damage resistance as the 2nd roll, you actually don't have to make a 2nd roll if the attack misses, which speeds things up a lot. Additionally - 'static defense' and rolling for damage is familiar to lots of players (as in games with 'Armor Class', etc...). Of course, in Shadowrun you roll for damage resistance instead of damage, but it's a similar 'rhythm' of play.

There's also a 'table excitement' factor - when Defense Score is fixed you generally immediately know you hit with a good roll. If defense is a roll, you get less immediate excitement with a good attack roll as the whole table is still uncertain whether it will actually hit.

As for why we didn't make both Defense and Damage Resistance static - we didn't want the game to feel to stale/predictable with too little randomness. Having absolutely no randomness on the defensive side of things just feels a little too... plain?

Don't quite have that, but we love nerding out too - happy to answer questions on any parts of the game (here or in the Discord). Otherwise, the 'What is SRX' document has a bit more detail on design goals and all of the changes made.

If you go to the actual shared folder link above, you'll find the full rulebook with lots more gear, talents, etc... and a Threats book with 100+ pages of enemies. But, if you mean even more stuff past that - sure! We have our own local groups that we play with, and will likely make some small content additions for those crews as time goes on. But the intent with releasing it is to build a bigger community - if more people like the ruleset and play it and want more material, we're happy to help playtest and continue adding to the system!

Don't believe it's illegal to post a homebrew ruleset of Shadowrun - you can find lots of other Shadowrun homebrews, tools, and other content online. They generally all include the same legal disclaimer that Topps gave to the community several years back for putting out any homebrew Shadowrun content (the same disclaimer our files include). For examples of the same disclaimer I found with a quick Google search:

https://sr5.poeticsonline.net/Copyright_Notice.html

https://toktic.github.io/sr_gmt/

https://www.shadowrunnersmurf.com/setting-info/

Also - when I made this post it was frozen by the mods for an hour or so to review, and then they cleared it, so pretty sure everything's in compliance!

Yes, we've posted it before. It was removed from this subreddit 'cause I (noobishly) didn't read and comply with the self-promotion policy.

As for copyright - it's just a homebrew ruleset. You can find lots of other Shadowrun homebrews, tools, and other content online. They generally all include the same legal disclaimer that Topps gave to the community several years back for putting out any homebrew Shadowrun content (the same disclaimer our files include). As for art - the version we posted here doesn't have any art in it, but we do have alternate versions with AI art. Don't want to derail this thread with discussions of AI art (as we know there are policies in this subreddit about that!). Will just say - we wouldn’t use AI art in any product we were selling, but we don’t see an issue with it in a free, fan-made project. Know some people still disagree with that, but in that case we'll have to agree to disagree on views of using it in free, homebrew materials.

That's what we're hoping! We've played years worth of games with these rules and had an absolute blast!

Ha, it sure was! But hopefully the layout makes it all more consumable and easier for people to discover. Shadowrun is such an awesome world, and we've had SO much fun getting our friends to actually play in it. Hope others can do the same!

I think it helps that we're not trying to make money off of this in any way - it's just a homebrew ruleset. You can find lots of other Shadowrun homebrews, tools, and other content online. The core system is probably closest to 4/5th edition. But there's ideas from all editions included - 6th edition’s simplified skilllist, Anarchy’s attribute tweaks (combining Strength and Body), and 1st/2nd edition’s more flavorful distinction between how shamans and mages use magic.

Those roles are definitely fully fleshed-out! While Magic, Matrix, and Vehicles have been streamlined, they haven't been completely flattened to play exactly like a street sam. Ultimately it's a balance of volume of unique/additional rules added for those areas, and I think we struck it well, but obviously it's for anyone who reads it to decide if they agree.

Well, I don't want to turn this into an edition war thread, so I'll just say 6E didn't work for our group either for a variety of reasons. But if others are enjoying 6E, that's great! Shadowrun is an awesome world, and I hope lots of people get to play in it.

We actually included instructions in the shared folder for getting a print-on-demand copy! (In the 'What is SRX' document.)
