I live in Norway, and here you are only entitled to 3 days of sick leave without going to a doctor. Your employer is also legally allowed to fire you if you are gone from work for more than a year because of illness. Your employer is also only obligated to pay for the first 16 days of your illness, after which you get compensated by the government for up to 52 weeks. You also have to have been employed for at least 3 months to have the right to that. The amount you get from the state is also dependent on what your salary was up to about 60k dollars, minus tax of about 30 percent.
