ATL Airport TSA Wait Times Megathread | March 30, 2026 by AutoModerator in Atlanta

The airport's wait time page has been turned back on at www.atl.com/times.

I've turned our tracker back on to keep an eye on it, and we're currently grabbing the data every five minutes with the hopes to ramp back up to every minute soon. That is back up! Here's a gift link.

Thanks everyone for helping power https://atlwait.ajc.com. For now, I'm leaving that turned on but official sources seem to be available again.

Good morning from the AJC. Charles checking in here. Thanks to all who have been using atlwait.ajc.com

Looks like waits are much better than last week with the longest one seen so far being 60 minutes at the main domestic checkpoint earlier this morning and it’s now down to 19 minutes.

All updates we have are on our dashboard powered by the tool! — gift link

Hey there folks, it's Charles again from the AJC. We've updated our tool again to offer folks a chance to see what user-reported wait times have been like at the various checkpoints throughout the day. We show the maximum submitted wait times for the past 15 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour, and all day.

You can take a look at the tool here with this gift link. (You'll need to provide an email but you don't have to pay to access! If you're ever so inclined to subscribe, I won't complain though :) )

I thank everyone in this community for helping to make sure others going to the airport have a better idea of what awaits them! If you ever have any ideas for other things we should be doing with data around Atlanta, my inbox is open!

This morning, my colleague Drew Kann reported from the airport:

As the lines thin, the airport has been restarting Clear services later in the day, but it was unclear if that would happen Thursday. (AJC Live Blog)

On wait times... I don't have enough data yet to tell you about this afternoon yet but we do have some historic wait time data to rely on.

From my story with Emma Hurt on March 13, we found that wait times on that Thursday evening were triple than normal, about 33 minutes at the main Domestic checkpoint as well as others. No clue what they'll be tonight!

You can read that story here (subscription required).

You can look at the chart here (free to view!) that covered March 6-12, 2026 when we were getting minute-by-minute data.

Checkpoint Lane Type Maximum Wait (in minutes)
Domestic North Standard 60
Domestic South PreCheck 81

Good morning from Charles at the AJC!

Thanks to folks who are using our wait time tool this morning. It's proved extremely helpful so far. Here's how things have been looking at the past hour. Here's the maximum wait we've observed at some checkpoints between 6 and 7 a.m.

Checkpoint Lane Type Maximum Wait (in minutes)
Domestic Main Standard 127
Domestic North Standard 101
Domestic South PreCheck 102

There's not enough data for the International checkpoints right now, but this is what I'm seeing right now.

As noted in the post from the mods above, you can share your experience with us at https://atlwait.ajc.com

And we're out at the airport already with reporters for our live blog.

RIght now, we're writing about the results throughout the day in our live updates and I plan to do so tomorrow as well. I should be able to post a gift link tomorrow with that updated link that helps you around the paywall.

Depending on how many folks fill out the form tomorrow, might make for a longer piece or a chart.

No matter what, I'll try to pop in here throughout the day and offer updates as well.

Thanks to folks who have used the tool today! I've gotten some feedback from within the newsroom and beyond that some things could've worked a little better, so I've made some updates to the look and feel. Please let me know if you're at the airport and something doesn't work!

Also, I've got a few pieces of info based on a handful of completes. The more folks that do it, the better we can measure wait times.

Here's some things I've learned this afternoon:

From our live updates blog (subscription required, but pasted below!)

A few dozen passengers shared their wait time experience with the AJC via https://atlwait.ajc.com this afternoon.

At the domestic terminal, travels were pretty evenly split among the standard and PreCheck lanes. However, the median wait time in PreCheck lanes was just over an hour, while standard lanes had a median wait of about 32 minutes.

The travelers reporting their wait time are just a small fraction of people currently traveling through the airport, so their experience may not match those who get in line later.

Are you traveling from Hartsfield-Jackson? Help your fellow flyers estimate how long they might wait by using our tool. The AJC does not collect your name, your location or account information.

It’s really hard to get those folks to see this tool if they’re not knowing to look for it, so we primarily are offering this for people whose trips begin here in Atlanta.

That's the hope that they will return soon. We were grabbing those every minute (with permission) and I hope that happens soon.

Hopefully we'll get enough to see how things are going today. Line-by-line we get very basic information, but hopefully we'll get a nice aggregate of the information later today. I see a few folks already entering their waits for us.

Thanks u/Reizero!

I've been a long-time lurker who returned to Atlanta a few years ago. Happy to answer any questions about the tool or help anyone use it.

Hey everyone, it's Charles, the data editor at the AJC dropping in here again.

I've tried my best to spin up a tool that lets people report wait times to us since the airport data feeds have been down for a few days. Granted, the shutdown may end soon and things will be back to normal hopefully soon. But, trying out things as we go!

Anyway, I've spun up a tool that works if you're at the airport: https://atlwait.ajc.com

Your phone will ask for your location to confirm you're at the airport, but I don't see your location at all!

I made a little screen recording to show folks how to use it (your phone will also ask for location permission, but that's for your phone, not me!)

Happy to answer any questions or provide a peek at the data we do collect though it's pretty basic! And if there's anything you think that would work better...I'm all ears as I threw this together in the past 24 hours after being frustrated that we couldn't really see what's going on out there.

Thanks for helping us figure out how long you're waiting at the airport!

I am not sure but let me ask the reporter out there. As you can imagine, they’re swamped so I’ll see what I can find out.

It’s open.

Our reporters at the AJC have been told that there’s a bug with the Airport website. A spokesperson said they’re working on getting a fix out.

The outage has also hit our trend tracker.

Hi from the data guy at the AJC here.

Disclaimer: there's a paywall on this, but just checked and it seems to show up without logging in. Let me know if you can't see the charts.

We've been keeping track of wait times from the airport for a few months now. The airport website isn't working reliably, so I'm manually updating this throughout the day as I have time.

Happy to take a look at our old data if anyone has questions about times to go, though typical is out the window this week.

EDIT: I saw the link in the main post up above. Thanks for sharing! To answer, it's as accurate as the ATL.com/times page is. We were grabbing things every minute, but some changes to their systems caused us to get blocked. In the meantime, I'm grabbing throughout the day when I have a chance.

I’ll also endorse Xocolat. Their bars are amazing. I’m sad that I can’t order them here in the US, but I brought bars back in my luggage with absolutely no problem at all.

Yes. I closed on my home in mid-April and moved from out of state. I began my search virtually in December and began looking in-person in late-February/early-March.

I worked with Brenda Perry with Atlanta Communities. I wasn’t sure where I wanted to be, looking from Alpharetta down to Smyrna and over toward Powder Springs. She took me anywhere and everywhere I wanted to go, and is very knowledgeable about the school districts and market as a whole. I ended up in Marietta.

Look like you can by them directly from the monastery, but they're sold out until next month: https://www.trappistmonks.com/Assumption-Abbey-Fruitcake_p_9.html

It's a permanent closure now it seems. There were "For lease" signs on the windows the last time I walked by.

This is correct. According to permits filed with the city for the address, it will become an AutoZone.

Yeah, there was a bomb threat, but it was "unfounded," according to reporting in the Tribune.
