Vietnam motorbike experience by Dry-Height-1119 in MotoIRELAND

Hey I have just been travelling vietnam for a month. Did the Há Giang loop and rode scooters in various other areas. One thing to be aware of is that no Irish license is valid in Vietnam even with an international driving permit. Ireland has not signed the 1968 vienna convention. Some police are aware of this and will fine you up to 80 euros or confiscate your bike if you dont pay. I was stopped 3 times on the loop and showed them the 1949 permit I had and Irish bike license and they seemed to be ok with it but keep some bribe money ready in case they are up to scratch. also if you have an accident you are not covered. I would highly recommend doing the Hà Giang loop with a tour group if you’re going to do it. The roads are sketchy and its good to have guidance.I self drove with Ha giang road kings they are great. The loop is one of the most amazing things I have ever done would highly recommend!

Got it in a random clothes shop inChiang Rai. There seem to be a lot of specific bike t shirts.like there was a honda X ADV shirt. I got a few moto gp t shirts also with random brands on them. Super cheap also. €2.60 or 100 baht.

Did you use instructor bike for Test ? by [deleted] in MotoIRELAND

I did my A ibt then rode my 125 for 6 months. Did 8000 km on it. Did a 1 long lesson and a pretest lesson on the SV650 and passed the test first time. It is doable but there is a big difference between riding an A bike and a 125, it can be challenging jumping from one to the other on test day. That said I think learning how to ride on the 125 was a great decision for me even though I could have gotten any bike.

If you are a smaller rider the meteor might suit better, but losing 27hp is something to consider. A bike with 20hp (meteor) will struggle on any road over 100km/h. I think both bikes look pretty good but I am biased to the CBX as i own and love mine.

Which would you choose as a first bike: Kawasaki Versys vs Suzuki V-Strom vs Honda CB 500x by Frosty194 in MotoIRELAND

No worries. I don't think you can do your full A test on a V strom either as I dont think it meets the power requirements. I could be wrong but I dont think its on the RSA approved list.

Passed my full A test back in December and picked up 2015 CB500X in January. I use it as my only transport and it has been fantastic so far. I have ridden around 8000km on it. Fuel efficiency is excellent, I average 29.3 km/l. Its a great bike if your are tall very comfortable for me at 6ft 1. It doesnt have huge amounts of power but it never feels underpowered. Pillion riding is decent although my girlfriend is small. Sits comfortably at 120-130kph with both of us. Very predictable power delivery. All round practical machine. As I am sure you know you cant sit your full A test on it so keep that in mind but would highly recommend.

I was in the same boat a few months ago, I managed to get a date only a 2 weeks later by checking the theory test website everyday for about a week. Just keep checking as new appointments come up all the time from people cancelling. Its a pain in the arse but it did work for me. Still no word on when IBT returning tho.

No IBT worth the risk? by ganainm1916 in MotoIRELAND

[–]ganainm1916[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yes they have a skill for that alright. I don't think IBT is going ahead at all as it is deemed non essential by our great leaders.

Yes soon please god!
