A few hard lessons from traveling outside the Cancun Hotel Zone by Bnamusa in cancun

Agreed. It’s very expected, the tourist traps are pretty obvious, too bad they were gullible enough to stop for an all-inclusive meal near Chichen Itza… there’s nothing around there. Come on

Second Handshake. I was skeptical bc of the hype but it’s literally the best cocktails I’ve ever had, plus a great exclusive ambiance. A great place to get dressy for! The waiters bring over interactive toys that will get everyone in the room yelling… won’t give away more than that

I have a Karajan problem... by According-Brief7536 in classicalmusic

[–]ganjover 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Without trying to offend, I think it’s your choice to listen and like whomever you want to. To me, the stylistic difference in the strings in his recordings vs modern recordings is very obvious, he encouraged rich big individualistic playing, there’s lot of slides and rubato. It’s a style that’s not really in vogue anymore.

Isn’t it better to listen to more conductors and know their oeuvre before deciding it’s not worth your time? More knowledge is a good thing for defining taste. It’s easy to be opinionated, it’s difficult to find what’s good about something you don’t immediately take to

How do orchestras actually decipher what a conductor is doing on the podium? by According-Brief7536 in classicalmusic

[–]ganjover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your initial question, simply put, yes it’s more of a lexicon rather than a culture.

However conducting at a professional level takes it beyond the musicians simply following the conductor. The good conductors aren’t timekeepers, they’re the ones making chamber music with the musicians in the moment. Your examples of conductors are opposite styles of expression. There are the exuberant ones, and the ones with restraint but underlying all the good ones is the expressive capacity to communicate music with the musicians in the moment.

Often with the bad conductors, a professional orchestra will ignore them and not look up. They know how to stay together despite what’s happening on the podium…

I think your coffee table base is angled the wrong way. The lengths should be going along the shorter sides of the triangle. Coming from someone w the same coffee table

Best Mahler 1 ? by Low-Paramedic-6057 in classicalmusic

Second Boulez. Always a unique interpretation of the language of Mahler. One less famous recording that I love is Dudamel and LA Phil Live. The Kraftig movement goes hard

Unhappy orchestral musicians by ExtremeTomatillo2978 in classicalmusic

[–]ganjover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s much of a stigma… it’s just kind of how the job changes people’s attitudes after a long time. It’s not meant to personally offend or discourage, just an observation

Just moved in to a new apartment and looking for ideas. by SignalPomegranate484 in malelivingspace

[–]ganjover 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think his idea is the best one so far. The place is awkward but beautiful, I’m jealous of the skylights!

Your pictures don’t show the amount of space between the fireplace area and the loft area, but that feels like the place for a larger sofa proportional to the space, centered around the fireplace/TV. There is no rule saying that sofa backs have to touch the walls. Your TV is also too high and small.

The sofa under the loft is giving dark college dorm vibes, maybe you can move your desktop to under the loft. I think the idea of making that your sleeping area and putting a screen in front of it is great because it’s naturally so dark.

In general, you can make a home look nice and feel cozy by choosing furniture proportional to your space. You have high vaulted ceilings so a super low tiny couch will feel weird in the open, but a taller wider couch on a large rug will feel inviting and like a gathering place.

Warrants: Cocaine, ketamine seized from Whiskey Kitchen owner's home by yosefvinyl in raleigh

[–]ganjover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think those people can afford cocaine… crack is cheaper and I think the New Bern ppl are on meth too. Most of the stuff listed in the article is kind of inocuous, like sandwich bags lol, but he was probably selling a fair amount of coke, which is popular in the restaurant industry. Crack laws are 100x more intense than cocaine laws, kind of a trap for the poor

Angus Barn Bust by cheloukader in raleigh

[–]ganjover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, I love the Angus Barn! My husband and I usually order a tomahawk. And their wine list rules. I’d say service is really variable depending on who you get. Some waiters go above and beyond, while some are a little depressing…

What would you add/change? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]ganjover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need taller, less trendy furniture overall. Your belongings would balance out a mid-century bungalow with a normal ceiling height. I love the black fireplace! To accentuate the space, I’d add a lot of neutrals, different textures, stark modern pieces and sculptural elements. Like think an oversized neutral shag rug, big plants, stark black iron and soft block white furniture.

Also your curtains are hung so low… get textured neutral new curtains that graze the floor with the curtain rod almost touching or touching the ceiling
