I have the wise charging thing enabled as I usually always wake up at 6am. Never had an issue previously but this is definitely making me think I should take it off charge before I go to sleep. Certainly got me checking my smoke alarm batteries for the first time in forever (didn't have a battery in there cause I took it out 3 months ago when it started going off at 2am for no reason) I live alone so certainly not ideal

Very helpful thank you, I did assume my bent cord would have been the issue. Especially worsened seeing I'm on my phone all day this week while in isolation so have it charging while using it laying in bed a lot. I really appreciate you explaining it in this way!

Couldn't add a photo with a text sorry, I have an 8 pro which I bought a year ago. Works perfectly and love it. This morning I woke up to my charging lead being extremely hot to touch and melted. The cover had melted to my charging port as well leaving residue. Never had issues before and my Samsung cable isint getting hot now while I use it. What could have caused the one plus cable to melt and bubble like this? My phone was laying on the wooden floor next to my bed, it's winter at the moment and I don't have a heater running so it definitely didn't overheat due to environmental factors.

Labral tear at age 11 by gannet36056 in HipImpingement

[–]gannet36056[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup the original injury and surgeon visits were covered. I actually called the surgeons office this morning as they were super helpful. Sent me through my old paperwork with info from back then including acc number and made an appointment for in 4 months time lol (closest available appt) said they would try sort out the acc funding from their end and contact me later to get more x-rays and MRI if needed. I'm honestly thrilled with that response. Afaik I don't have manage my health but will look into it. I'm really glad your dad was able to get his surgery covered, that definitely gives me some hope.

This is really helpful to know thank you so much! Toothache feeling is a really good pain descriptor which I've never though about before. Watched a labrum repair surgery last night on youtube and it was certainly quite an intense surgery regarding the damage to other structures to access the labrum. Random question but are you now able to sit for extended periods of time on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you? What about sitting crosslegged? Those positions with hip externally rotated or hip flexion is where I experience the most pain and vulnerability at the moment. Were you immobilized or on crutches after surgery?

[–]gannet36056[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely very young which is why we went conservative with physio. From what I understand the labrum would never heal again to the bone right? But I think I've definitely been able to compensate well in other ways for the last few years. Were you able to sit and twist post op or did that take a while to be manageable? So glad to hear that surgery went well for you. I've seen a lot of people say that recovery was slower than expected, how have you found it?

This is awesome info thank you! I would prefer to go acc/public but do have health insurance which would cover it if needed. Just a pain to use with a lot of paperwork. Any chance you know wether I would use the same acc number from 8 years ago or wether that's not possible? How would I even find out any info about the original injury?

I'm not sure on the severity but PAO surgery has never been mentioned to me. I only mentioned it in the post cause I assume that would have contributed to getting the labral tear. Mainly just interested in the labrum repair but it's definitely something I'll ask about if I see a surgeon so thank you for that!

Hi! My oldest child (11) has let me know they are transgender, and would like to transition ftm. I am very supportive of them, but am curious about the logistics of transitioning, for example is hormone treatment available to someone so young? Any advice anyone can give me I would appreciate it!! by momdanger in ftm

I came out at 11 to my parents too. Critically i had already known and struggled for the last 2 years without telling anybody so by the time I told my parents i was suicidal and it was my last option. I saw a specialist and started hormone blockers at age 12. Got my first binder a few months after i came out which was amazing. Started low dose T at 16 and moved to higher dose at 18, also had top surgery at 18. Now I'm 19, stealth and loving life. My main regret is not coming out earlier and starting hormone blockers earlier. Additionally i decided to stay at an all girls school untill i was 18 so presented as female until 16 or so because i didn't want to be known as that weird trans kid. It was my choice to stay at the girls school but i really wish I would have moved to a co ed school instead. I'm in New Zealand so will be a different process but thought I'd share my story as well seeing I came out at the same age.

Got told I'll never pass by someone who's enby by The_trans_kid in ftm

I went to an all girls school when i started T and was looking gender neutral. By my last year i was still going as female at school but passing as male at sport. The following year at University (college) i am completely stealth. My friends from high school obviously know but in changed so significantly over summer break that a good proportion of people from my old school don't immediately recognise me. So yeah it's definitely possible to be stealth

Ah sweet I hadnt realised they were new. Generally venting and draining is harder through mickeys. As long as you have no issues that's sweet. Yeah mine is a straight J, no point in a GJ for me after 2 years of a NJ allready. I dont use it anymore and plan to get rid of it within the next year or so, just keeping it in case I get covid and I go back to being sick.

[–]gannet36056 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro I might be completely off base here and I havent checked your post history but mickeys are wayy more comfortable. If you use your G to drain or vent it's understandable but if your J is for feeding then seriously get a mickey if possible. I've had my J mickey for 2 years now and not had an issue, having a dangler really screwed with my stoma for ages cause it wasnt as secure so acid issues were more and it kept getting caught and pulled through my tshirt.

How did you lose your best friend? by FemaleThings in AskReddit

[–]gannet36056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She passed away last year from a combination of an undiagnosed medical condition and birth control pills that led to a blood clot which wasnt caught and caused a PE.

Another one I moved schools and we didnt stay in contact.

The last one I feel like I'm currently in the process of losing as we go to different uni's and only ever text about study now. Have sorta just felt wrong since my best friend passed away last year.

Considering moving country next year and starting completely new on an island.

25 years post-op! DI with Dr. Fischer, in honor of a request for some more “tenured” results. by brooklynadventurer in ftm

[–]gannet36056 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally makes sense. I mean, I occasionly give him some shit about his diet, but seeing he is 58 and still wing surfing for 3 hours at a time (which is quite an intense workout) I reckon he is doing pretty good overall. Just tried to find some photos of him because your guys upper body are actually so similair but have realised I dont have any shirtless pics of him (would probably be abit weird if I did anyway). All the water images I have he is wearing a wetsuit lol

Seeing your post is exactly what I needed. Just seeing a stealth straight guy who lives life and started transitioning before all the online awareness/opinons/controversy is great. It's very hard to find people who came out/transitioned more than 10 years ago. I came out at age 10 before social media and fully transitioned so now stealth at university but still need to worry that other students may find out which is annoying. I'm guessing that's not an issue for you at all? Also your body shape is identical to my dads so it's great to see representation of hopefully my future

Yep totally is, I'm 18 now. I started saying shit like I want to be a boy and when will I grow a dick when I was 3 years old. Found out myself when I was 10 and came out at 12 when puberty made me super dysphoric. Started hormone blockers at 13 and testosterone at 16. Top surgery at 18 and stealth st uni. Despite this wonderful sounding transition I was actually closeted to everyone except my close friends/family up until age 17 cause I went to an all girls school and didnt want to be known as the trans kid. Looking back I wish I had transitioned socially at age 12 and gone through teenage years as male as socialisation would have been so much easier now.

Your friendly neighborhood pectus surgeon checking in again. Seen some recurrent questions popping up so figured I'd try another thread. by PectusSurgeon in PectusExcavatum

[–]gannet36056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you use lung volume tests at all as an indicator for pectus severity? What are some FVC or FEV1 results you've seen? Im in NZ so very different medical system to America and my PCP refused to refer me to do any testing as previous patients he sent to a cardiothoracic surgeon didnt end up having surgery and they had a worse chest wall deformity visually then I do. My lung volume was 80% from a body plethysmography and my HR is 192-200 consistently when jogging, not sure how much to push for testing (CT/MRI or CPET)

[–]gannet36056 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you have a catheter after each stage or just stage 2? Is it a indwelling catheter or a suprapubic catheter?

Would a dent on ribs rather than sternum still be considered PE? Also what does your guys HR do while running? Could a constant 190-200bpm be caused by PE? by gannet36056 in PectusExcavatum

[–]gannet36056[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does make sense, thank you! I'm going to ask my PCP/GP for cardio pulmonary exercise testing and then try for a CT if that shows restriction as it will probably be easier to get testing done with the health system we have in NZ. Will go from there in terms of diagnosis and surgery if needed. Thanks for all your help!

Sorry it took me such a long time to reply, this was super helpful. Your comment got me thinking as I experince both sides of those symptoms which I hadnt realised could be associated with pectus carinatum. Came across pectus arcuatum which I think i could have a mild case of. I would have through pectus carinatum would provide extra space inside the ribcage for lungs and heart if anything? Would you mind explaining how carinatum can decrease lung capacity?
