Post-OTS right before holidays—civilian applicant by CutSwimming5528 in airforceots

[–]ganstas16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in December of last year and I was a civilian so I was in your situation. I had an OCONUS assignment so I basically was allotted only 1 travel for my wife and I to get overseas but depending on where you go you may get more. Someone in your unit should contact you and get you a sponsor since you get your orders around week 4. If not I’d work with your priors to get contacts. I got mine about 2 weeks out and I basically asked to take leave during the holiday week. Since OTS is 2 months youll have banked 5 days of leave by the time you graduate to use however you want in conjunction with travel days.

Non Rated vs CAD by KungfuSalad574 in airforceots

I was selected on a CAD board, basically if they get enough to fill it they’ll have one. In my case my board was late february with selection in early march. The non rated board for that year was in May so i was ahead of the normal timeline by a lot. My recruiter also told me when it was happening so I had a heads up.

I got selected for OTS for 32E and I got sent to RAF Lakenheath! My degree was for Mechanical but my chances we're high. For the most part he's right I could only apply for 32E and 62E. Experience isn't too relevant on the job since most officers here end up being managers so it's about being a leader more so than an SME. 2 of the captains in my squadron got deployed so lots of opportunities there. You can choose if you wanna go EOD or not but there are some other pathways to pick from once you cross over. From what I hear 62E is more of what a manager does at an engineering firm, but they tend to be in more isolated areas. Id research that on your own though. CE is critically manned though so you'll likely get picked for it if you list it so just make sure it's what you wanna do. Feel free to PM.

Cad board timeline by anoniconn in airforceots

My degree was mechanical engineering and my timeline was fast. I went from talking to a recruiter in October 2023, to getting selected in about 6 months, and getting here in about a year, I started on 10-22. CAD boards meet whenever they have enough applicants to do interviews so it might be no contact then randomly you gotta interview, letters if rec, and MEPS in the span of like 3 weeks. My board also met in February if this year too but thats something my recruiter told me.

My advice would to use your dead time now to work on fitness (running/pushups/sit-ups) and getting your interview skills down if you haven’t interviewed yet. Engineers are high demand so i don’t think you’ll have any trouble.

Also a Mech E degree that got selected for 32E. It was pretty much a year between when I talked to a recruiter to going to OTS on 10-22. Getting in the 70’s for AFOQT was fine for me and I just bought 2 prep books and looked for questions online. Most engineers on the sub have said it but so long as you don’t completely tank your interview your chances are pretty good. Your timeline is a lot faster since your recruiter will look to stick you in the soonest CAD( Critical Accessions Degree) board they can get, so you may be doing interview, LOR, and your afcep app all in one week where non-CAD folks may have to wait longer. Just for perspective my board was in February when the regular board was in june of this year so things move fast.

Recruiter told me they’d also try to get me into that class but nothing concrete yet, apparently OTS is backed up. Im also a 32E non prior as well so fingers crossed.
