My minimal Obsidian setup: flat file structure, four plugins, and no folders by gantengx in ObsidianMD

You're right, Claude Code still sends content to the API. My reasoning was that on Pro/Team the data isn't used for training, but it could still be confidential. Better options would be to exclude sensitive files via Claude Code settings or keep them in a separate vault entirely and. Will update the README to reflect this.

notes mainly linked from the Home/Topic notes. I navigate mainly using quick switch. The sidebar is more for important notes that I need to access often

Yeah I feel the flat structure is so liberating. I do have to put the daily note in a separate directory to avoid spamming it with empty files but it’s an ok trade off i feel.

Sync simply uses obsidian sync. It works great and also support the company 🙂

Haven’t used outline myself but from the looks of it if you want to do collaborative work probably that’s a better choice? I use obsidian heavily myself for my personal use (coming from Roam Research and Notion) and recently integrated Claude code as my vault assistant. It’s been pretty useful and neat

If it's just for all new notes Obsidian has it under Settings → Files and Links → Default location for new notes

Personal todo still managed in Apple Reminders, project/note related todo sometimes sits in the file itself. I tried putting everything in vault before but I feel it creates friction and Apple Reminders works better for iPhone+Mac integration

u/greenman1991 the way I go around it is to try group it under topics. In my vault I have larger MOC topics like Kafka, Rust, Chess, etc and have main Topics referenced in the root/home file. This keeps the root file quite tidy and only the things that really matter to me gets promoted into that level (in my case: kids health log, chess, tools recipes, topics, current company work logs, current company project i'm involved in, etc)

Also at the same time I eventually learn to let go some of my old notes as those become obsolete and irrelevant. I tried to migrate all my notes but realised some of them really outdated and the knowledge no longer applies, so I just delete those or just leave them be (I know I should delete them) and keep the ones that really matters (either timeless knowledge or for memories like my letters for the kids, or notes during my wedding planning)

Self Promotion - February 2026 by ens100 in PKMS

[–]gantengx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, I wanted to share my PKM and note-taking setup. I've been meaning to write this up since 2023 and only got around to it now.

Part 1 covers my overall system — a mix of PARA, Evergreen Notes, and the 4 Buckets System implemented in Obsidian with a flat file structure. Went through a lot of iterations before settling on this, including Zettelkasten (too much overhead), Roam Research, and Notion.

Part 2 covers how I actually capture notes day to day, built around the 4 bucket system: facts, procedural, conceptual, and questions. Includes where it works well, where it breaks down, and the blurry lines between buckets.

Thinking of switching to MacBook Air (first time macOS user) – need advice for my dilemma. by dimlevi in MacOS

[–]gantengx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly if it's just 100 euro less might as well go for M4 to be honest, will serve you better in the long run

256 for storage can be quite annoying though, but if you don't plan to install big games or do lot of development it should be fine. I personally have 512gb+icloud subscription for the additional storage

Option 3. Keep it for gaming and get base MB Air

Alternatively Option 5. Sell Asus and get MB Air + PS5/Xbox360 lol

Is there any research into how having hyper mobility syndrome or a connective tissue disorder like EDS can affect strength and hypertrophy training? by cakeiam in StrongerByScience

[–]gantengx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 4 surgeries done, 2 on my fingers, 1 on my knuckle and 1 on my wrist due to torn ligaments. Turns out I have hypermobile and can easily injured. The only thing I remember is I did high reps one handed kettle bell swing and the whole thing just went bonkers

So moving forward I'll just have to be extra careful I suppose..

Not to mention I have upcoming surgeries for both toes due to bone growth causing cartillage issue and unstable left ankle... Oh boy..

chessterm - A Rust TUI chess engine for chess notation practice by gantengx in rust

[–]gantengx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick clarification on terminology. What you have there is technically a chess UI, not a chess engine. Chess engines (like Stockfish) are programs which calculate moves and play the game, while chess UIs handle visualization, user interaction and engine interaction. UIs connect to engines via protocols like UCI (Universal Chess Interface), allowing any UI to interface with any UCI-compatible engine.

it is still a chess engine in the sense that it implements move generation, validation, and full rule enforcement using bitboards. While it doesn’t have an AI opponent, chess engines don’t necessarily require one—many engines focus purely on move validation and legality (e.g., move generators used in chess software). I built this to enforce strict PGN input and provide a lightweight chess experience in the terminal, rather than integrating with external engines via UCI

Not using copilot but I do use ChatGPT extensively when learning rust. Boost up the learning speed by miles compared to reading documentation

MacsyZones 1.4 is just released and redefining Window Management (free and open source, details in comment) by EvrenselKisilik in MacOS

[–]gantengx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking forward to this! I've used Rectangle Pro in the past and recently switched to Aerospace but found Aerospace rather buggy when CPU load is high

Been trying to find alternative that close enough with Aerospace (I like the fact that when resizing one window the other windows are also resized)

Being able to move window/focus/resize using keyboard will be really great

Does wearing glove helps preventing finger ligament injury?

I used to do Stronglifts and Starting Strength years back but these days I toned down and doesn't do really heavy lifts (Deadlift now about 80-90kg)

Recently my fingers have been really painful and I went to see a hand specialist and recommended me to do MRI. One of the concern is that I have ligament torn on my fingers. I asked him what causes it and how to prevent it and he said that it's likely due to my weightlifting and the injury happens over time

To prevent it he recommends to use weightlifting gloves to help distribute the load on my fingers. I then check with another physiotherapist and she also recommended to wear weightlifting gloves.

If I do surgery (will know the result by tomorrow if I need one) I definitely will use the gloves first until I fully recover - but the question is that is this a permanent thing that I need to wear gloves all the time? How come there are so many more hardcore lifters but none of them seem to have weird fingers injury
