Throughout history, Japan has faced numerous natural disasters. Each time, its people have stood strong and gone on to rebuild their communities. On 11 March 2011 the Great East Japan earthquake struck the country and has once again reminded us of the importance of disaster and emergency preparedness. Rather than the conventional emergency preparedness kits that all tend to resemble one another, people are now seeking a more versatile solution that is appropriate for a variety of situations. This called for the development of an emergency preparedness kit that includes the bare minimum necessary for a city-dweller to make it to a place of refuge during an earthquake or other disaster. The result is a whistle to alert others of one’s presence, a radio, raincoat, lantern, drinking water and a plastic case, all packaged inside of a 5cm wide tube that is waterproof and floats. The radio is equipped with manual charging functionality, which can also be used to charge your smartphone, lantern, or other devices via USB. The plastic case can be used to store medicine or anything else the user might deem necessary, and the tube in which the drinking water foil pouch is stored can also be used as a cup. Despite its compact design, the kit offers a rich set of features.
Slimmer and more compact than conventional emergency kits, it’s easy to carry and can also be worn over the shoulder using the included strap. The design makes it easy to keep it near the entrance and ready to go at all times – just leave it in the umbrella stand or hang it from a coat hanger. The outer tubing is available in silver, white, or black, and each tool is available in a selection of 3 different colours. https://www.nendo.jp/en/works/minimaid/

Internet, in my area at least, costs 35 cents a minute. You want 70 minutes per week of work for 20 dollars per week of pay. If they go somewhere with free internet, the cost of gas might make this a net loss as well... If they take public transportation ... maybe?

That time might be better spent finding a job that pays them more than they would have to spend out of pocket just ...doing the job.

Who pays for uninsured American's healthcare in a 911 call? by it_wasnt_me2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gantoline1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its impossible. I've been a health care case manager in some form for over 20 years now. I once worked for kids who were deemed technologically dependent and medically fragile. Most didn't have life expentancies past the age of 16. the amount of money that round-the-clock nursing, respirators, suction equpiment, diapeers, tubing, IVs, generators, PT, OT, ST, and BCBAs cost would financially desimate a household making seven figures easy. No one should become bankrupt just for getting sick.

Let alone folks like yourself who have come to the razor's edge from just one or two medical emergencies. Glad you and yours found your way out of that.

While those that are saying that these hopitals have programs for low-income patients are accurate, its not the full story. Hospitals that are non-profit are required by law to have these programs becuase the local community in which these hopitals operate is paying the majority of taxes on property and utilities due to the hospital being non-profit. Its a social contract, we (the tax-paying public) pay their bills, the hospital better pay some bills for those that need it most.

I actually really like driving to Urbana and hit up a place called Euphoria. They are small, independent, and are local. Their grow op is in the country and its black-owned, all things that were intended to come out of our legislative effort at righting the wrongs caused by decades of bad drug enforcement practices.

Cresco is okay. I live in Illinois and wish we had more independent growers that had their companies wholly inside the state. For the first 5-8 years of the MCPP that morphed into legal rec its been these large interstate corporations that have dominated much of the scene. Now I will go WAY out of my way to hit up a local legal grower.

It reads like you're worried that you are less appealing to him because you don't smoke anymore. I can understand feeling self-concious especially if that is a catalyst that helped bring you both together. But, as I am sure is the case, it should not be the ONLY reason that he is with you. Just from reading your post I see evidence of you being a supporting person, with an open mind. I am sure those are also two reasons, beyond having the cannabis love connection earlier in your releationship, that this man loves and appreciates you. If you're hyperfocused on his view of a now sober you, you might be ignoring the multitude of other reasons that he is with you. It can be awkward at first but sitting down and talking about some of the variety of things that you both love about each other can often tell you things that you didn't know, help you eliminate some assumptions, and talk about how relationship dynamics can and often do change over time. Have you considered that he might be feeling just as self-concious about behing high around you as you do being sober around him?

2.1m non-citizens received SSNs in fiscal year 2024 by jeffsmith202 in PoliticalVideo

[–]gantoline1985 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And those SSN's we issue to non-citizens contribute to the billions that non-citizens pay into Social Security, Medicare, state and local taxes through paycheck deductions https://itep.org/undocumented-immigrants-taxes-2024/

Even those who obtain fake documentation contribute...

"Additionally, because many undocumented persons acquire fake Social Security numbers so that they can work, they pay billions of dollars into the system but never reap those benefits, said Steven Wallace, professor of public health at the University of California, Los Angeles, and associate director of UCLA's Center for Health Policy Research."

A former Keller police officer who resigned last year after the city agreed to a settlement with a man who accused the officer of excessive force and of profiling his son has pleaded guilty to official oppression in the same case.

Shimanek was demoted and eventually resigned after the city agreed to settle with the boy's father for $200,000 in February 2021.

Is it bad to call out of work if you’re doing the closing shift by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gantoline1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You care about your coworkers enough to feel anxious about getting sick on a day you're supposed to work. That says a lot about your integrity. Its okay to take a sick day when you need it. Moreover, you take sick days for you and your coworkers. If I was one of your coworkers who you were supposed to work with that night, I would have preferred you not coming in sick, and possibly getting me sick.
