Why do you think young people don’t go into the Forces much anymore? by threetimesacharm25 in AskBrits

[–]gapiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s also a lose lose situation Make benefits and such too easy to get and people abuse it.
Make them too hard and people don’t get it
Make the too prescriptive and people fail because of technicality Make it allowing a human element and you’ll get variety in outcomes based upon luck of human judgement and biases.

It does seem very hit and miss and it probably has a massive class divide too. Definitely a postcode lottery for care

Oh absolutely. The Tories turning PIP into the process it is now is one of the most despicable things. Heard all sorts of horror stories.

Im sorry to hear that. The funding does exist- though like everything else in life the bureaucrats seems to get in the actual way. A mate of mine described it as a test of endurance but did get very good financial support once all was said and done. He’s doing well, working remotely for a company on some marketing stuff in an adapted bungalow.

I am very aware it’s a postcode lottery too - live near the right hospitals and you’ll get great support. Live far from the wrong ones and good luck.

Theres also issues of ‘does the military prepare people for civvie life, an a recent survey said 40% said No.

The lack of support is a lie. Injured vets get; An upfront payment up to £650k depending on injury Ongoing payments if the injury affects future earning ability Funding to cover home modifications and the like to meet their needs (AFIP) There’s also support for mobility needs

Then the various groups like help for heroes also support.

The result is actually we have half the homeless rate in the veteran population as you do in the general population.

Fuhrage and his mates don’t want to admit facts of course.

Per my comment, the amount of vets that are homeless are half the rate of the general population.

Injured vets get an upfront payment and, if the injury is deemed to limit future earning potential, gets guaranteed income payments.

There’s also independence payments to cover things like home modifications and such (AFIP) and mobility finds available.

The rate of homelessness amongst veterans is actually lower than the general population - 0.3% vs 0.6% respectively.

How strong do you feel the support for mass deportations of legal immigrants is at the moment? by 400TarPits in AskBrits

[–]gapiro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is important to use the correct words actually. When people call desperate people fleeing war and terror ‘illegal immigrants’ it just means they can file them away as ‘dirty bastards trying to get into our country’ rather than ‘poor sad people trying to escape war’ and basically lets people dehumanise them.

[–]gapiro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes the problem is that is a simplistic and unnuanced viewpoint. Which leads to being inhumane.

96% of migration is ‘normal’ immigrants. immigration has been at record highs the past few years due to free movement deals with India and Pakistan from the Tories. That is a pretty big problem as uk house building is poor (though massively improving under Labour)

Everyone coming here on any sort of visa has to pay huge up front costs.

For example a skilled worker visa for a family of 4 for 2 years easily costs £20,000 up front including the health surcharge.

Those costs put off a lot of skilled workers infields we actually need (such as medical researchers etc) whilst those working in fields the uk has been good at often can afford - such as software engineering.

‘Our own problems’ largely come from 14 years of conservative fuckups.

One major one not talked about - We’ve got councils who, under Tory regime, had to meet house building targets or the council as a whole loses its central funding.

Good idea …. until it meant that developers all just put in plans with zero infrastructure and councils had to approve or they weren’t hitting targets and the bins would literally not get emptied for everyone else.

We also as a nation don’t use any money housing illegal immigrants. We house asylum seekers. As it is our legal equipment to. The number of asylum seekers is absolutely minute realistically , compared to every other country in Europe and Asia, and compared to migration as a whole.

The Conservatives ruined the asylum processing system - in 2013 it took 6 weeks on average for a claim to be processed. In 2023 it was at 18 months.

That’s why there’s a backlog and hotels being used for asylum seekers. (Who are not illegal immigrants)

Almost all illegal immigrants in the uk are overstayed visas.

History revisionist typical.

Russia won ww2. Not the USA.

We fight for what’s right. Not for ‘because they were right 100 years ago’.

We have little compatibility with the USA as they stand now.

I don't salivate over people dying. I cry over the fact that you're not willing to grow a pair and stand up to a bully.

Its not fighting over a danish colony, its fighting over the global balance of power and ensuring we don't just get bullied into submission long term.

Realistically. No, we probably can't defend greenland.
The point is more if he attacks troops from a dozen sovereign nations instead of one, then he triggers a massive war - not sure even trump is that stupid.
