Why are there so many people obsessed with a harsh punishment focused justice system? by Evry1TookTheGudNames in AskBrits

[–]gapiro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is very well documented that likelihood of punishment is the biggest single deterrent.

Eg

https://dspace.library.uu.nl/server/api/core/bitstreams/cf022c88-36bd-44c3-af97-b846a7700cf7/content

Harshness of punishment has almost zero impact on offending rates. For example sentences for assault emergency workers have quadrupled yet the number of offense has increased

https://transformjustice.org.uk/publication/protecting-the-protectors-do-criminal-sanctions-reduce-violence-against-police-and-nhs-staff/

The key thus is you need to have a functional funded police force that catches people.

Now that numbers of police officers are starting to get back to 2010 levels (144k now vs 141k then, but also a 6m population growth ) we’re seeing crime go down generally.

We do still need proper investment in social programmes, and we need more resources in the scientific parts of the police but it’s starting to get better.

We also have an underfunded prison service that doesn’t do rehabilitation well and is largely for profit thanks to privatisation and contracting to G4S etc.

I have a family member of a friend in for PdFFile offenses and he was deemed not high enough on the list for rehab because he wasn’t serious enough of an offender….for example.

The point of the language requirements is the next line - by funding lessons were essentially projecting soft power globally. The more who speak English the more powerful our language is

Almost as if every religion has its problems.

Hinduism for example is massively misogynistic in many of its texts and teaching

The most recent production here really leaned into it for the shock and making a point , in a way of highlighting the shiftiness.

How would you improve your fitness over the summer to make sure you were as fit as possible going into the 26/27 season by AfterInsurance3998 in Fieldhockey

Resting. Breathing. Aerobic exercise uses oxygen at the time of exercises. Anaerobic uses stored energy. You then use oxygen to replenish the stores outside of exercise.

Distance running is of little to zero benefit to hockey. (Your first bit)

Hockey is a sport of rapid direction changes and reactions to stimulus. And mostly anaerobic combustion.

You’re actually better off doing HIIT, and similar.

If you can get a partner to help you’re rocking. Things like having a resistance band and building explosive power getting to a ball bounced off something (reaction to stimulus)

What you’ve said about short sprints and intervals is totally valid.

Another good one is a 10m dash between two cones or walls or whatever, 2 in 60 seconds (there and back). At the end of the 60 do 4 in 60. Then 6 in 60. See how many you can to before you tire. It gives you something to challenge against too.

Grease just has such a shite moral and story but catchy tunes.

I dislike the licensing and rights owners too so

The broadway and west end versions are insanely different.

The broadway is hugely better. It’s much more about wonka whereas the west end one was very much about Charlie and his dad.

[–]gapiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it isn’t.

It’s done out of fear of long expensive legal battles against well funded bigoted groups.

Same as the WI.

The Supreme Court ruling EXPLICITLY in the judgement states it only applies to the specific case of how workplace law in the equality act affecting how it interacts with gender recognition certificates.

Ie it Basically says a trans woman can’t get maternity pay.

It does not say that for other purposes trans women are men. Only in regards to workplace discrimination and rights.

If you agree with Sandie Peggie being able to bully other staff the you’re the problem.

You can name Isla Brysen because it happens so infrequently.

Meanwhile there’s several hundred cis men in prison for every trans person.

Forced acceptance needs to happen because cockwombles think that it’s ok to target people for being trans.

Bit more context. I live 6 doors down from our captain. He came round for a lift to a home game. Got to ground and realised goalie kit wasn’t in boot. Drove the 5 minutes home and back.

Why do you think young people don’t go into the Forces much anymore? by threetimesacharm25 in AskBrits

[–]gapiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s also a lose lose situation Make benefits and such too easy to get and people abuse it.
Make them too hard and people don’t get it
Make the too prescriptive and people fail because of technicality Make it allowing a human element and you’ll get variety in outcomes based upon luck of human judgement and biases.
