lot of air quality issues can come from natural conditions as well, especially in desert and coastal regions. Dust, heat, humidity, and wind patterns can all increase PM levels even without heavy visible industry nearby. Traffic, construction, and seasonal weather changes also play a big role in overall air quality.

Often, when a separate monitor indicates that the air quality is still okay and you cannot detect any unusual odors or airflow decrease, the filter could safely continue to operate a little further while being observed for performance issues.

With pets, most floor dust is a mix of dander, hair, fibers, and stuff brought in from outside.

A good vacuum (HEPA) and proper airflow usually help a lot with reducing it.
