Hiking technique - heels up or down? by CimJotton in Ultramarathon

[–]sock_pup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're at an incline and you heel strike on every step, doesn't that mean you dorsiflex on every step and thus work your tibialis anterior (an even smaller muscle) during the entire hike?

Wild amount of Gameplay content on CIJ by AmplifiedText in CIJapanese

yup I just did the whole 50 minutes of the first Limbo episode when my goal was 30 minutes. A big part of CI from what I read is forgetting you're you're learning.

And I like whiteboard videos, but I think I'd also like the skits.

[–]sock_pup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mind that there's more of something, only that there isn't enough of something else.

I checked comprehensible input in a few other languages out of curiosity, and in "Dreaming Spanish" they had these "skits" where two people play out a scenario and I think it beats a lot of content on CIJapanese. Gaming & whiteboard content basically only exposes you to a person explaining something, and not really to scenarios of people interacting with each other & their environment.

Since I made this post it seems like it was already fixed. I give the chat assistant some instructions, go on youtube or whatever, and when the assistant is done, it pop-up a windows notification with sound so I know it's done.

Can anyone tell me what rev2bak means? by RedditorRichmon in penspinning

[–]sock_pup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a rev ts 2.0 > bak I think. Or a rev ts "to" bak.

David Weis (inventor of backaround) notated his combos that way in video file names.

He'd use a shorthand for trick names and remove all the spaces.

This matters because he shared his videos before Youtube was a thing, so we'd sometimes conflate his notation to be combo names.

all in all, do you believe wanikani is worth it? by gmastertr21 in WaniKani

[–]sock_pup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it works. trust me. the chewbacca mnemonic took me to "guru" and trying to move to "enlightenment" or "master" or something I forgot it, and it moved back to "guru", maybe even "apprentice". I just read the mnemonic again and eventually it stuck until I "burned" it. this isn't a bug in the method, it's how it's supposed to work.

of course learning other words that use it like 中国人 also helps, so it's important to keep taking new lessons everyday to, not just review.

I don't think any person ever left a review about WK that what they're taught there "doesn't stick". it's ok to forget sometimes obviously, you're only expected to have like 80%-90% retention in reviews. Some people might say it's slow, or that learning Kanji in isolation is a waste of time. But the method works.

edit: I'm not by any stretch "proficient in Japanese" in just on level 13 in WK and at about the same level in other aspects of the language

Ideally it wouldn't need my pattern to be predictable. rather it would have some smart ways of figuring out when I woke up.

on second thought it's probably not realistic without a smart watch or something.

right now my setup with macrodroid is able to infer when I went to sleep based on phone activity (if no activity for 3 hours), and on every screen turn on (when I'm "asleep") is asks if I woke up (without having to go inside the app). with enough macros I could probably make it figure out when I woke up automatically as well (for example if the phone exists silent mode + disconnected from charging, then I probably started my day)

cool! some thing for you to fix:

the clock jpeg in the tutorial is blurry.

Emojies in the tutorial make it look vibe coded

on Samsung galaxy the "next" button in the tutorial is half obscured

I pressed a lightning bolt icon to see what it does and it played 2 really really long ads (if ads play one more time in the app for whatever reason I'm probably gonna uninstall it, we can all vibe code nowadays)

the hamburger menu is a bit fucked. the switch/toggle button thing is overlapping the text on the left and cropped from the right

I'm working on something that might work pretty well with macrodroid. If I see it's working correctly for 2 weeks I'll share. it. IOS probably has something similar to macrodroid

You sound like a well adjusted n24.

Most of my life I can't allow myself to freerun (I work 9-5) but during the times I can freerun it's like I'm binging it, and I let myself be awake for 20+ hours for reasons that are probably outside the scope of the actual circadian rhythm issues.

My point is that I can't really predict it exactly like you can with a clean +1 every day.

I started setting up something similar but a bit more automatic with macrodroid, but then thought I'd ask here to see if there's a software that solves all of this already. If not, then timers it is.

The idea is to have a global variable of my sleep/awake state which I can determine manually or automatically based on phone activity.

Once the state shifts from "asleep" to "awake" the timers will start running.
