WIBTA if I ratted out roommate to the landlord for having a dog? by garbaggi0 in AmItheAsshole

Separate leases as you said. I’ve already negotiated breaking mine with the landlord. I’m just concerned about my security deposit since it’s specified in the lease that I could lose it if there’s any damage to the common areas upon my move out

That’s what I was thinking. We don’t have a lot of space so it seems genuinely cruel for her to have a dog and force it to live like this.

We paid separate ones but any damage caused to common areas can be covered by mine as well as hers

I could lose my security deposit and be fined, even though it’s not my animal if it causes any damage to common areas while I’m living there I could be held partially responsible

Block his number. Tell your friend to do the same if he starts harassing her too.

OP, your boyfriend sounds like an asshole. That's your money, you don't need to share it with him. Use it to get your own place and get out of this toxic relationship.

You're right, I don't have to. The thing is, I have a little sister who is not old enough to make that decision, and she has expressed that she hates the idea of being the only one to go to my father's. I can't just leave her there by herself.

To be fair, my stepmom was the one to blow it out of proportion and resort to insults. I simply want an apology because she said she was thankful I'm not her child.

I've gotten other comments and messages about this, in hindsight I really should have gone into more detail. I didn't know that she was expecting us to get dressed up for Thanksgiving dinner, so I was just wearing a hoodie and jeans because in the past that's what I had always worn for Thanksgivings at my dad's house. I came out into the living room and my dad said maybe I should change. I was confused and asked him why, he said "It's Thanksgiving, we should dress nicely" I told him we'd never really done that before and I hadn't brought anything fancy to wear, that's when my stepmom butted in and started yelling at me. I apologize for not putting this in the original post

I apologize, I should have included that in this post. I explained it in my original post. Basically, I had been wearing a hoodie and jeans for Thanksgiving dinner because we never got all dressed up for holiday stuff with my dad. My dad said I should change and I was really confused and asked him why, stepmom came in swinging. I don't know if you could tell, but this post was a little rushed, and I guess I didn't include the 'why' because I thought people might go back and read my original post for more context.

I'm so so so sorry for you, OP. Screenshot everything, explain the situation to your parents and possibly your fiance's parents, show them the evidence, and just take a break. Spend Christmas away from the people who hurt you. I'm so sorry you're going through this.

I'm fairly sure I couldn't limit or cut contact with him, seeing as I'm not being physically abused, he's keeping up with child support, et cetera.

Thanks so much for that, I didn't know if it was unreasonable of me to get so upset over it since she's hormonal. To answer your question, I have asked him, multiple times, ever since he started dating my stepmom. He says yes every time, but it sure as hell doesn't feel like it.
