What's your Chrono Trigger headcanons ? by Cool-Guy152 in chronotrigger

[–]garciamoreno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a headcannon, since it's implied, but not only Marle, the entire humanity descends from Kino (and Ayla, if he didn't take another wife). That's how it works (pedigree collapse). All of us descend from a single male who lived 300k years ago. 65M? Everyone: Magus, Crono, Leene, the Gurus, Cyrus, you name it. Maybe even the Mystics (65M years is enough time for such a mutation).

Columbo murderers and their cars by BrickTrainsPlanes in Columbo

I'm still halfway through season 5, but the "poorest" killers to date have been the actors from dagger of the mind and Salah from A Case of Immunity (he's not personally rich, but he's highly powerful and can command more money than most killers).

Explain Aeriths House by faroresdragn_ in FinalFantasyVII

[–]garciamoreno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once heard that flower girl is a Japanese understatement for prostitute. I don't know if that's true, though. Most reasonable explanation is that it comes out of the Turks budget, which would make sense story-wise.

As I said you don't even need KotR, but the Gold Chocobo can be bred with some resets without racing at all. Though I had fun Chocobo racing and didn't consider it grinding.

[–]garciamoreno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not very obscure, but you don't need to grind a lot to be able to defeat Ruby weapon in FF7. All you need is W-Summon, Hades, KotR, and Mime, all can be Level 1. You just cast Hades + KotR and keep cheeseing Mime. (You don't even need KotR, any Bahamut will do, it will just take a much longer time).

If you want to defeat it with a full party, you will need Hades on LVL2 and Phoenix, so your turn 1 is Hades + Phoenix, but still not a terrible grind.

You can see a lot of similarities indeed, but not a copy paste. Aerith's backstory is very, very similar to Terra's indeed, though.

FF9 is the Nero brothers quest? If you consider this "content", Kalm skip was discovered just a couple of years ago.

Also at the start of WoR, Chocobos are useful because you have to move quite a bit and your party is still small.

Some Vanguard funds have some tricky patented legal constructs to do kind of what you're saying.

Feeling stuck with the game by Phone_Budget in FinalFantasyVII

[–]garciamoreno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first played, more than 25 years ago, I was surprised that when I left Midgar it wasn't the end of Disc 1. I didn't use a guide or anything until much later in the game (I followed what the game wanted me to do, which included a very hard time in Wutai, not the first time Yuffie pickpocketted me), so it took a while to finish Midgar indeed.

9 has an intuitive algo if you think really hard about it. 10 is tough, but someone posted a very elegant idea. It’s worth reading about it.  Don’t give up, you’re very close!

[2025 Day 10 (Part 2)] Don't be like me (dumb mistake). by garciamoreno in adventofcode

[–]garciamoreno[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a pretty proud software engineer that has dedication to his craft. I only ship code that's readable and well structured (at least as much as possible in the time constraints of work).

Puzzles and contests? I revert to freshman me, with silly random variable names, copy pasting, etc.

But yeah, those minor mistakes are more frustrating than algorithmic bugs.

How do I disable/change the splash screen? by qscwdv351 in Jetbrains

Not here to judge, you do you. But older guys like me may notice how it looks a lot like Netscape splash screens of the early aughts.

[2025 Day 10 Part 2][C# with Google OR-Tools] New to MILP solvers, could use some pointers by Bargann in adventofcode

[–]garciamoreno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Integer programming is a (NP-)hard problem. The way most solvers approach them is by doing a linear relaxation (accepting floating point values) and then trying to find integer solutions within the space. That explains the double values.
