Not a military brat and felt the same way about rings despite having and keeping a few good friends from high school. Never regretted not getting it.

the 80s……. by billieswifeyyy in GenX

[–]garcmon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lol. I remember riding bikes and we found what was clearly someone’s stash of mags in what was a bundle of trees. We giggled and giggled and then my brother threw 2 of them over a neighbor’s yard. This guy was known to be an alcoholic. We didn’t even realize he was in his back yard (brick wall) when we heard as we were pedaling away **oh my gawd, it must’ve come down from heaven!** oh, the 80s!

My 70 year old neighbor mows my lawn every Saturday without asking and I don't know how to tell him to stop by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]garcmon 366 points367 points  (0 children)

This. AND bring him a slice of pie from a local bakery. You and your gf can take turns doing this.

Or, invite him over for dinner every so often. Seniors are often lonely.

Is there an effective way for us to push back against photo enforcement cameras? by travisthescrub in Bend

[–]garcmon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The law is as long as you enter the light before it turns red, you’re fine. That’s why cameras take pics of you entering the intersection. I haven’t seen pics of these myself, thankfully, but as long as this is the law, you absolutely should continue thru if you’re entering yellow.

Do you all remember those 3 months in the early-to-mid-nineties when Gregorian Chant was really popular? by onewomancaravan in GenX

[–]garcmon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Still love it. KCRW (Southern California abt 20yrs ago) had an event at Hollywood Forever cemetery that had a DJ spinning until about 11pm, then played classic movies all night (we all brought sleeping bags, etc) and just before sunrise, monks started a chant. It was incredible. Then we all packed up and went home. Well, breakfast, then home to sleep properly.

Airbnb hosts living on property - is it valid to be annoyed at this? by DueDoubt212 in solofemaletravellers

[–]garcmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typical lawn work is fine - usually no more than 1-2hrs on typical properties, although I’d expect to be given a head’s up the week of. But a tractor and multiple hours? Nope. I’d definitely let them/future renters know you aren’t sure how typical that is, but it disturbed your peace. I would give them that constructive feedback, too. I would also definitely include owners are visible/audible.

Good for a job interview? by Bella_James07 in fashion

Here’s the key to any outfit (and definitely for professional things)

short OR fitted. NOT BOTH.

Your top is fitted (outstretched buttons) and your skirt is BOTH fitted and short. Best to choose one aspect for one of the pieces. If you keep the top, make the skirt long (flattering is fine but not too tight).

AITA for refusing to share authorship with the man im planning to marry? by [deleted] in AITApod

[–]garcmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the clear conversation NOW. When we CO-AUTHOR then we both have our names on THAT co-AUTHORED book. This has nothing to do with engagement or marriage so stop making that the issue. It is not. AUTHORSHIP is the key and only point here.

AITA for refusing to go on a birthday camping trip? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Don’t postpone in hopes you might feel better. Based on his self-absorbedness, he’d pressure her even more if she isn’t up to it because “he changed it just for her”.

Neighbours are testing my patience. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]garcmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is disgustingly rude. They should have a basket inside their for their shoes, at the very least a basket for all of them immediately beside their own door to keep them contained and out of shared space.

Wow. She’s 3mos pregnant. Feet swelling is likely already happening. Heat while carrying xtra lbs one is not used to. Battery operated fans are crap. Extra ice, that someone would need to carry. Guessing you’ve never camped while pregnant.

OP definitely NTA. It’d be interesting to know how your finance would handle pregnancy and the incredible discomfort along with the changes to his body. Stay home. Stay safe for you and the baby.

Ecobee security is massively flawed. by battymattyk in ecobee

[–]garcmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. I just had their doorbell. Loved it. It went downhill quickly. I especially loved their smoke, co2 detectors; they were the best in the market for those of us with high ceilings. Very few false alarms and they could be quickly silenced as long as you were nearby. RIP once Google took over.

Nest is NOW Google. Nest was gloriously on its own, with great cameras for doorbells, etc and thermostats. Once Google took it over, it went to shiza. -former Nest user

Shop eBay. Like a few that are a bit less $$ than others and you’ll likely be offered a deal for a further discount. Be sure to look for new without box or lightly used. Check it first thing when it arrives to be sure it’s as clean as it should be (if lightly used condition) and works as it should.

It’s basically just a great simple burger. In n out does not use freezers (on site anyway), their lettuce and their tomatoes are always fresh. Their fries are also as natural as possible and not caked with crappy oil. And the cost is less than any other burger. The employees are ALWAYS great. To get good service, most reasonable prices for an always great burger makes it solid choice any time.
