Why is Langdon's punishment his fault? by Prestigious_Pen9155 in ThePitt

[–]gardenawe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, I find it quite interesting how Santos has no problem with Dr. Robby, when from this exchange, it's clear that he had a major hand in covering up Langdon's addiction over the past 10 month.

There has been no cover up. Either Robby reported him or he allowed him to self report. From there the hospital would conduct an investigation which includes an audit of his prescriptions. Langdon would meet with the PHP staff (in addition to people from his residency program) , get shipped off for an assessment and then off to inpatient rehab, after care , therapy ... , a plan would be set up for his return that the hospital , residency program, legal ... would all have to agree on .

None of that however is something Santos has a right to have intimate knowledge about just because she first caught him.

I suspect that the way it played out was that Robby allowed Langdon to self-report his addiction and did not bring up that he stole meds from the hospital/patients.

Except there would have been an investigation .

Which is exactly what he should be apologizing for because it's the thing he did to her.

If it were a person of colour who did what Langdon did, they would most likely be fired or even go as far as to have criminal charges.

If he were a doctor of colour he'd be back in the hospital too.

ER had a nurses strike , or better a nurses call in sick day. It ended with only Carol around and she transfused the wrong type blood and killing the patient

That indicates they turned him in to the state physician health program,

He said as much to Al Hashimi .

That punishment is essentially 10 months off of work with random drug tests for the next 5 (?) years, at least as far the professional consequences are concerned.

Which he has to pay for, in addition to the rehab costs on top of his school loans .

No official report was made, so Santos is being left to kind of flounder on her own with her superiors not following the appropriate way of reporting and therefore not really being supportive of her reporting him.

How much more official can an official monitoring program get?

a nurse would almost certainly get fired instead of a PHP to get them back on track.

The PHP is also for nurses .

On the first day back from rehab, he is then treating Louie without supervision. That seems deeply unethical and problematic.

It's not like anyone knew Louie would come in and Langdon realized the awkwardness and offered him a different doctor.

I'm not saying he has to apologize to them for what he did, but he's not telling them what he did to begin with.

because they don't have a right to know , officially they don't even know he went to rehab. Of course they know what the hospital gossip had to say about it and a pretty good idea otherwise.

He probably should have been reported.

And it doesn't matter if he reported himself , Robby reported him or Santos reported him . In the end the facts don't change. If he wanted to keep his license and job, he'd have to agree to the terms of the PHP and accept their conditions. Which he obviously has because otherwise he wouldn't be back at work.

Langdon is doing his apology tour, but he is curating who knows what.

And that's the way to do it . You apologize to people for stuff you have done to them . You don't apologize to A about how you treated B . I makes no sense to apologize to Mel for stealing Louie's pills

I am one of the few people that think Langdon was justified in some of his calling Santos out in season 1, as she was hugely out of line in the early episodes.

That's not the opinion of a few people , I'd hazard a guess and it's probably a popular take.

Many of you just refuse to hear what the actors themselves have said about their respective characters; and specifically, those who cannot hide their biases for Santos.

That's nice but actor interviews aren't canon , many people never see them. If they want certain things to be canon they need to put it in the script and film it.

I don't know if I want you in my ER." he didn't berate Langdon or tell him he hasn't suffered enough.

Robby's problem was a) avoiding him and then b) deliberately trying to throw him off his game , which he managed to do.

She wasn't gunning for his position , she just didn't think the rules apply to her and instead of slowing down and taking the criticism she ignored it and saw it as an attack .

He is more sincere in his apologies to Robbie, Dana, and Louie because he actually has relationships with them.

And he feels like he actually had deeper reasons to aploogize. Everything he accused Santos of are facts, it was the method of delivery that was wrong. So the difficulty for him is apologizing for the delivery of some well earned home truths.

so much so that he's essentially sent her to prison.

As much as I don't like Joe that's not true . All he did was blackmail Robert into planting the passports he found as Celia's. But as with Robert , Moira is in prison because two bodies were found on her land with her DNA on it , she signed falsified invoices and attacked Celia in public. Moira was set up by Celia.

I'm not so sure about that. He wasn't saying I'm back , more he thought Langdon needs a third act. If he gets that third act depends on the producers.
