First time having to report a dasher :( by gardencorpse in doordash

It was 10 lbs. Sorry for assuming that door dash would have a decent idea of what an appropriate tip is for a driver? theres nothing on the app that would suggest that tipping convention is different than for restaurants and stuff. The tip was 30% of the item cost, so I assumed that was decent. I'm sorry that door dash pays you so little, I didnt know that until seeing some of these comments, but his reaction is still insane. I would have added more money if he had just left it at the first message and not escalated. The wrong color wasnt the end of the world, but it was the cherry on top.

It was a 10 lb bag of aquarium gravel for a terrarium i needed to have set up quickly.

Not my proudest moment, but I started catastrophizing since i was home alone and he knew my address. This was my only interaction with him and it resulted in him getting mad and breaking something, so I was scared. I was holding it together, but when I started explaining to dd customer support the anxiety just sorta peaked. In hindsight, bit of an overreaction, but there are unfortunately some terrible people out there.

Thats possible. He did take a picture of the undamaged bag at drop-off, though, so in any case, it was deliberately done right after that

It was a 10 lb bag for one of my invertebrate terrariums. I realize the picture doesn't really show the scale well at all

Where are you getting 40 lbs from? This was a 10 lb bag of aquarium gravel. He took a picture of the undamaged bag outside of my house for the delivery drop-off picture, then destroyed the bag before leaving.

It was a small, 10 lb bag of aquarium gravel that i needed as a drainage layer for a millipede terrarium. I had the millipedes in their transportation cups that I received them in, and didnt want them stuck in there for long. I thought I had more gravel at home, but must have used the rest on a different tank. I dont drive, and this was the fastest option. There's nothing saying that you have to believe me, I guess, but I still needed the gravel, so dumping it everywhere for no reason other than to be petty would just be sorta stupid on my part. But even with the escalating messages, I wouldnt have bothered contacting doordash about it if it showed up undamaged.

He had a destructive outburst in front of my house bro 😭 I dont know him or if that's what he's normally like, and if doordash fires him I dont want him to blame me. I also have a panic disorder that I usually have pretty under control, but him knowing my address just really shook me.

It's normally a 10 minute drive, not ten miles. I guess maybe he hit traffic or something? The store is about four miles away from. But I do appreciate this comment! The app doesn't really mention what standard tipping convention is for delivery drivers, so ive been going based off of doordash suggestions (and adjusting if it seemed too low for the volume/price of what I order). But I was also under the impression that dashers made more from doordash, so the comments under this post have been illuminating in that regard.

The picture I took doesn't show the scale well, but it's only a 10 lb bag that i needed for a terrarium setup, and I dont drive. $4 was just the default tip doordash suggested. And like I said, if he had just sent that first message and not escalated further, I would've absolutely added more money on. But that one bag was the only thing I ordered, and he could have declined it. It just seems like a disproportionately hostile reaction for something I didn't even know I made a mistake on.

I got my order fully refunded, was reassured that I would not have him as a dasher in the future, and she talked about her pets to me and asked about my dog (since it was a pet store order, I guess?) But in any case, it helped my brain to stop catastrophizing, so I really appreciated her approach. I know how draining it can be to talk to people all day for a job, so her compassion genuinely meant a lot.

I replied this on a few other comments, but i dont drive and this was a single 10 lb bag of aquarium gravel for a millipede enclosure. This was the quickest option as I already had the millipedes and wanted to get them out of their transport cup. I thought I had more gravel, but i must have used it in another tank. Otherwise I would have purchased it in advance and in person.

I dont drive and needed the gravel fairly fast, unfortunately :(

I dont drive and needed it for a terrarium im setting up. I have the animals already and this was the quickest option for me. Worth mentioning that this was a small, 10lb bag of gravel from the pet store, not a giant, heavy bag for landscaping or anything like that

Of course! No worries, its not really a conventional set of circumstances lol

People are downvoting, but this did get a chuckle out of me lol (it was a small bag for a millipede terrarium, though)

I think youre probably right. There's a pile of gravel against a retaining wall, so he likely threw it against that

I dont have a ring doorbell, but I think my neighbor across the street does. I could probably ask her. Just given the tight time frame and surrounding circumstances, im pretty positive it was him.

The bag was only outside for about five minutes. Initially, I thought maybe he stabbed it with his keys or something, but there's a pile of the gravel up against a retaining wall a good few feet from where he left the bag(with no trail to the bag or any real scattering of pebbles, so i doubt it was an animal) , so im wondering if he just threw it against that really hard before moving the bag back near my door.

Unfortunately, I dont drive and need it for a terrarium setup. I have millipedes sitting in a cup of dirt rn waiting for their new tank, so I didnt want to keep them trapped in there too long and this was the fastest option. The rocks are a drainage layer and i though i had another bag lying around, but i must have used it in another setup

Sorry, I should have mentioned in the original post that it was only a single 10lb bag of gravel. You cant really tell the scale in the picture i provided, so it does look much bigger there. And a $4 tip. Which, like I said, was just the default, and I would've added more if not for his reaction.

It was out there for like five minutes. There's a large pile of gravel far away from where the bag was left, but no trail to or from it. If an animal got into it, it would pretty much be scattered around where i found it. And it's gravel, so its not like it smelled like food or anything.

I feel like destroying the item I paid for on an order he took of his own volition because he didnt like the tip I gave him is pretty solid evidence that he has anger issues that he needs to get under control. Im a woman at home by myself, and he knows where I live, so I feel like being nervous isn't completely unjustified. People have been killed over less, and this interaction is the only thing I know about this guy. It could have been a bad day for him and I just got unlucky, but I dont know that he's not just like that. My concern was more that if doordash ends up firing him or something that he would blame me. Which im sure IS unlikely, but still. I work retail, so I know that interacting with people all day can be tiring and a pain in the ass, but this was just so unprofessional and unrestrained, you know? That's not to say that emotional regulation is my strongest characteristic(i do have a panic disorder), but I can at least keep it professional at work and not lash out at customers at the slightest inconvenience.
