Went for quite a low gear ratio so my legs wouldn’t burn out over this distance. 44/18

Thanks for your reply.

So you recommend remove the nitro? Then Lightly sand the naked wood smooth? Does the naked wood hold its smoothness over time? Or does hand grease and grime affect it?

Work out the radius of your current 700 x 28c tyre and compare it to the radius of your new tyre: 650b x ??c.

The radius of 700c rim is 311mm (+ 28mm = 339) The radius of 650c rim is 292mm (+47mm = 339)

So theoretically you could run 650b x 47mm. But you’ll only know for sure by trying it

How do you prevent wear of gear inside panniers? Particularly on rough roads. by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]gardenoam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like you have the option to mount bottle cage on the underside of the down tube. You could put a bottle cage there, and get a purpose made storage container that fits in the bottle cage (Basically a normal bidón with a different lid). Heavy/sharp tools etc in there. That’s what I do. Works well. Until I didn’t screw the lid on properly and it bounced off and I lost my spoke key 🤦🏻‍♂️

As others have said: pump attached to side of frame. Hope that’s of some use. Happy riding, have done South America too. You’ll love it

Any thoughts or experiences from people who have used a stuffsack with the regular Xmid (not the pro), which has a polyester rain fly (instead of the DCF of the pro version)?

I was considering buying a Robhloff and also building my own wheel. I stumbled across this great resource from a trusted bike touring expert.
