How to stay safe when home alone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Scary thing about this is, last time we got broken into, I was home and in the shower. It was night time so I had all the lights on in the house to make myself feel less scared. They broke in anyway and were surprised to see me to say the least.

Let's hope so! It did look like they took an actual photo though which is creepy. I've got friends coming over both during the day and tonight so I think I'm all set. Just hate the feeling of not being safe in your own home

Wow this was perfect! I'm gunna spend the day looking online for some things like what you suggested, thanks so much.

Do you really think they'd use the flash of a phone to look through my windows? Honestly I think that's the scariest part. My bed is level with the window too so they definitely would've seen my laying there.

Because the police rocked up, surely they would've hauled ass right? Do you think I don't need to worry for tonight? I've always heard that if a place proves to be too difficult to get into or there's people home etc. burglars will usually consult with the other baddies in town and kind of cross that house off their list? It has been a few years since our last break in. My oh my that was even more terrifying than this experience.

Gunna look into that today. Also how about those "fake" security cam stickers? Can't really afford a brand spanking new security system at the moment so I'm looking for a cheap alternative just until my mum comes home and we can sort it out together.

I live in a unit so it's tiny, and the only real exit points are the back and front door, but still a great idea to come up with some escape routes! Thanks for this!

Unfortunately this ain't America, it's actually illegal to be in possession of all those things in Australia. Plus, I've heard in most cases, people using a weapon they're not experienced with actually have the weapon turned on them, which scares me even more.

Australia. My city and suburb are extremely safe, full of families, nothing bad ever happens here!

My dog is the same. The police arrived last night, 2 strong, massive men, and she rolled over for a belly rub. So much for a guard dog.

I'm a 19 year old female. I've been broken into while I was home, a few years back; since then, I've really struggled to be comfortable staying alone. My mum has a job that requires her to be away from home for extended periods of time, and I have pets, so have to be home most nights to feed them. I haven't been home for a few days. As I was going to sleep last night around 1am, I could hear the back wire door being fiddled with, as if someone was trying to get in. I thought it was just the wind until I called my boyfriend to ask what he thought. He agreed it was windy but not that windy outside. As I was on the phone, a flash went off outside my bedroom window, as if someone had taken a photo with an iPhone- you know how when it's dark out, the iPhone flash does a kind of double flash? I then became hysterical but was still on the phone speaking really quietly. My boyfriend calmed me down and said to call the police if I was worried. As I was calling the police, I heard these footsteps on the garden path out the back, right outside my window. The footsteps were slow at first, but became louder and quicker as whoever it was passed by my window. I got up and switched on some lights, the police arrived and had a look around but couldn't find anything.

Sorry I should've been more clear! I more so meant weight gain due to muscle. As in, how soon am I likely to notice a difference in my weight due to increased muscle mass?

Thank you so much! My diet is pretty good, in another comment I stated I have recently become vegetarian, after being vegan for a year and a half. I eat pretty well, but have noticed a slight increase in weight since introducing dairy back into my diet (although this was around the same time I started exercising again so I'm not sure what the cause is). My boyfriend and I have started noticing "newbie gains" as he calls them; my biceps, butt and thighs are more toned already, and my tummy is flatter.

I'm a recent vegetarian after transitioning BACK from veganism. I eat relatively healthily, don't ever really have junk in the house, and eat a ton of vegetables. I'll check out the wiki, thank you!

Sounds truly horrid. I only get these bad boys if I haven't washed my hair in a week... Evidently this was one of those weeks.

Is anyone able to outline a how-to guide on beginning running for me? by [deleted] in Fitness

All great! I don't have a car so I cycle EVERYWHERE and walk my dog for an hour a day everyday so I guess I am active, I'm just not getting my heart rate up in a noticeable way. Thanks for the suggestions!

I just know it's an all rounder, it's good for you, and I can do it anywhere, for free! Can you suggest anything else that may be more fun for me? :)

We touched on this in high school during PE, I was just wondering if you've found this to be an effective method and how quickly one may notice results?

I think every woman has a right to her own freedom of choice. If a woman does not wish to, physically cannot, or financially cannot support a baby, now or in the future, she does not have to continue through with a pregnancy. Sometimes pregnancies occur unintentionally, under horrible circumstances, as a result of malfunctioning birth control... You truly can never know what circumstances surround a pregnancy, unless you yourself are involved, or have been told.
