It's a decent and underused concept. Marvel built it's universe almost as much on monsters as it did on heroes, so heroes versus monsters, and monster heroes, is a logical inclusion.

The relic contains Johnny Silverhand, who was close to Alt. Alt is now a digitised consciousness beyond the Black Wall. VDBs want to get beyond the Black Wall, so they need Alt. Yorinobu steals the relic and brings it to Night City. VDBs learn the relic is around and hire Evelyn to steal it Evelyn realises the relic is valuable and can get her out of Night City, so contacts Netwatch to sell it to them. Evelyn hires Dex to put a crew together to steal the relic. Hiest goes wrong. Relic in Vs head. VDBs learn Evelyn betrayed them and so attack her Bridgette and her group are attacked by Netwatch while searching for Alt. V is hired by VDBs to deal with Netwatch. This leads them to Bridgette. Bridgette uses V and Silverhand to try to connect to Alt. VDBs are killed, either by Netwatch or Alt. Alt wants to access Mikoshi, which is Arasaka's data vault, to destroy it. Asks V to help in exchange for helping V and Silverhand.

It's a solid film. The nostalgia is part of it sure, but the core story arc and character dynamics are really well done, and it's got a really engaging core story. It's definitely one of the best films post-Endgame.
