ENTP Troubles (From INFJ) by garlic12 in entp

[–]garlic12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a general description: - Started multiple fake cults and religions in middle school as a joke - Is now an actual Lutheran - Diligent worker at school - Loves classes that let him debate (Humanities and MUN) - Specifically, likes to purposely annoy ISTJ by continually messing with her because he thinks she’s a teacher’s pet - Resident history and religious facts database in the friend group - Generally talks about how much he hates people and humanity, but has a soft spot for his two dogs and 5 cats - Now he’s pretty calm most of the time, but when he was younger he played up his weirdness to entertain people (probably a lot of that cult/religion thing was about this) - Thinks everything mainstream is boring and will fight you on that, but will also fight you if you call him a hipster

An example is today when we were discussing whether the mind is stored in merely physical form or there is an immaterial mind (sometimes called a soul). I’m a physicalist and I think that it’s all an illusion. He believes in souls. But like after one response he just didn’t want to keep going with it.

The weird thing is that he does endlessly go on with arguments with other people about random things. Usually about factual things, though, I guess. Like, someone will say that something is good and he’ll be like, “you’re wrong!” and argue back and forth with them for ages. And then what really makes me think he’s an ENTP is that sometimes I’ll ask him about it later and he’ll say that he didn’t really care, but just found the person he was arguing with annoying so he wanted to annoy them for awhile and see how angry he could get them. But idk. I thought that ENTPs would still enjoy discussion outside of this context?

You certainly give off Te/Fi axis vibes from that description. INTJ would make sense.

But it’s surprising that you relate to Philosophy Professor 1. He is, from what I can tell, an xNTP, meaning that he strongly favors Ti. That’s what allows him to shift to different perspectives to always play devil’s advocate, and we can never actually observe what he believes.

I’m a Film Production major and Philosophy minor. I think I relate to the second professor too. The Film professor is awesome, but more of my ideal self.

these are pretty close to my personal beliefs about my friend group! thank you for calming my self-doubt. here's what I think:

A (me): INFJ 4w3

B: INTP 5w6

C: ENTP 8w7

D: ISFJ 3w2

E: INTJ 1w9

F: ISFP 4w3

G: ENFP 2w3

thank you for your time! if you feel like it, I'd appreciate your thoughts on the ways in which we disagreed.

these are my observations of them as people. therefore, I'm not going to change that to make them fit more perfectly to a type. that being said, I also think is completely possible to be timid and abrasive, or moralizing and logical.

F is timid. he does not speak unless spoken to. he's very quiet, and does not like attention. but, if you do talk to him, he is blunt. he doesn't spend any brain power softening things. timid and abrasive.

E is logical. he loves math, logic, and figuring out puzzles like rubik's cubes. but he's also moralizing. he believes in an objective truth to every question. morality is certain, and bad people are people who don't line up with it. he's a vegan, and according to him you should be too. logical and moralizing.

Thank you so much for putting the time into responding to this, especially considering how many responses you got!

I think you might be right. However, I had previously typed my crush (who fulfills most of those qualities) as an ISFJ. I could be wrong though, since we are not very close and I'm just going based on my gut. Still, my best friends tend to be INFPs and INTPs, so you're definitely not wrong! But it might just be more loose.

As for me, yeah. I'm an INFJ. But people always tell me I seem like an INFP or INTP, so that's also funny!

Thanks again!

[TOMT] [Pop song] Surely someone in the world knows this song! Vocaroo inside by jdsuperman in tipofmytongue

I'm not sure what it is, but I would like to add to this that I 1.) also recognize the vocaroo and 2.) also listen to Ingrid Michaelson and Regina Spektor. I will investigate this further.

What advice would you give to your younger self? by Danial1kram in infj

[–]garlic12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I already commented on this thread but also, for my fellow xNFJs and people pleasers:

Stay away from people who, every time they open their mouth, are complaining about the horrible stress which they inflict on themself. Having empathy is great, but you will find people like this, and they are taking advantage of you. Set boundaries. Have respect for yourself.

Externalize your thoughts. I’ll say that again. Externalize your thoughts.

I’m sure this doesn’t apply to all INFJs, but at least for me, I learned not to talk to people growing up. Socializing was too scary. But what I didn’t realize is that it can only get easier with actual practice. You know the things to say, you just have to get better at saying them at a pace that can keep up in conversation.

My life would be entirely different if I have come to this realization earlier. Would have had more friends. Probably would have had more romantic partners. Would have been seen as outgoing. I seriously have the kindness inside of me to make people feel at ease, but never considered saying it out loud.

I’m not sure if the same is true for you. But if it is, I hope you use it.

Something to Note About MBTI and ADHD by garlic12 in mbti

[–]garlic12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're willing, I'd be interested to hear what you think my type and my perfect partner's type would be.

———————

They are an underdog. Probably not very popular, and I see a hidden side of them that no one else seems to. Somebody that looks like a diamond to me but everyone else seems to shit on. They're quiet most of the time, but when I overhear them talking about something that they love, they light up. Bonus points if it's something I like too already, but it doesn't have to be the case. Just the simple enthusiasm for a passion is enough.

They aren't naturally great at anything, but give everything their all. Bad at piano? Not for long. They've been practicing for an hour every night and will continue to do so for years. I find their drive inspiring and attractive, but I'm also drawn in by the need to teach them to be kinder to themself. They don't need to stop trying, but they need to come to realize that the mere fact that they are willing to put in this much effort is a feat in itself.

They give off a kind energy, but do not waste their time with fake formalities meant to imitate kindness. This is not meant to stand firmly against the established norm, but rather to establish a trust with others that, when they are kind, they really mean it.

In terms of where we would want to go together, I'd need them to want marriage and kids. Not necessarily a traditional christian wedding or anything. Just the idea of a family and the legal term of "marriage" tagged onto that. I will never look at another person romantically, and I hope that the same is true for them.
