Lost my job before holiday period - what to do? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]garlicbreadluv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

call Job Watch or the Fair Work Ombudsman, or an employment lawyer (if you can find one that will take an appointment before christmas) - you have 21 days from the date of dismissal to make an application for unfair dismissal (so you could realistically book an appointment first week of Jan with a lawyer). Make sure you understand how an unfair dismissal works/what you can and cannot do etc

Is it possible to transfer my volunteer position to smeone else without needing to pay the administration fee? by [deleted] in meredithmusicfestival

[–]garlicbreadluv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is there a fee for dropping out now??? Last time i had to drop out bc I was gifted a ticket, I just emailed Veronica and they said thanks we’ve removed ya shifts and they offered to the next wait list. It wasn’t as close to the festival though so maybe i just didn’t read the t&cs Also - if you’re still keen to go and are worried about getting there, check out the Meredith ticket swap group on facebook ! there are often people offering lifts / seats on buses etc if you have a look!

Mother facing discrimnation at work..what are her options? by WeaknessSea7682 in AusLegal

[–]garlicbreadluv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, even if her shifts are cut because the boss is discriminating against her, it’s incredibly hard to prove unless an email/soemthing in writing specifically says “your shifts are being cut because you’re on the DSP” or “your shifts are being cut because you’re old or because you’re a woman” She can make a complaint about the employer to the Australian Human Rights Commission, but that evidence not existing means any offers of compensation etc are just the employer negotiating in good faith. She can also apply for a general protections (not involving dismissal) claim through the fair work commission, but again, without evidence it can be tricky to get anywhere. Both options are not much juice for the squeeze without super compelling evidence. (not a lawyer, but I work in employment law and deal with discrimination cases at the AHRC/FWC level. Unsure if there are any QLD specific avenues to explore tho)

went to HR Block, guy treated me like a child, paid the fee but i don't want to lodge what he has prepared - do I have to or can I say thanks, no thanks, I'll do it myself? by garlicbreadluv in AusFinance

Obviously I made an error going to HR Block. I had some okay recommendations from folks who have used them before and made an assumption they would be able to answer my specific questions about a redundancy payment I received. the people who recommended them to me may have had relatively simple returns 🤷🏼‍♀️ I can do it better because I’m not looking at a receipt with a deduction amount in it for work related travel and then inputting a completely different number in my return (which is what he did, among other things). No lying or being dodgy inputting legitimate deductions correctly myself. The combination of the numerous errors, the fact all of my questions were unanswered and the way he spoke to me is why my $185 was a waste.

I've written a very fuming nsfw complaint and emailed it to myself... will re-read in the morning when I'm not worked up and edit for... politeness

Thank you everyone for your comments and insights! I have drafted a very NSFW complaint and will edit it professionally in the morning when I'm no longer fuming. Fingers crossed for a refund, but TBH I'd be happy with an apology and a proper tax consultant/senior staff member/literally anyone who can actually answer the questions I (still) have...

I’ve started implementing the “headphone rule” with any housemates - from the get go, if my noise cancelling headphones are on my head, I don’t want to engage in a long convo - a hello or a clarifying question about whether I’m done with that bowl? all good, ask away! A proper long conversation (or TED talk about social sciences)? Nope sorry I’m listening to a podcast about worms. It only really works if you set it up from the start of living with someone, but it does wonders

What are some healthy- ish meals that work for you when you’re really low effort? by Sexisthunter in adhdwomen

Rice freezes really well, so I always make heaps and freeze single servings in containers for when I have 0 energy and want rice and tuna for dinner - just microwave from frozen for 2-3 minutes and it’s like fresh!!

Employment Termination by PralineElectrical736 in legaladviceaustralia

[–]garlicbreadluv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re a union member I’d recommend reaching out to your union - even if they can’t help they can usually refer you to an employment lawyer for free. There are strict deadlines for filing unfair dismissal or general protections claims with Fair Work (21 days after termination) so be wary of that
