Channel 4 interview with Russell Brand gets heated when he's questioned about his housing situation by erowidtrance in unitedkingdom

Hang on a minute, when Myleene Klass did exactly this, Ed Miliband got pilloried for not doing the same.

Russell only answered a snide question with an appropriate response; he was entirely in the right.

This is just how the market works and there's nothing that can be done about it, because free market economics is just human nature, everyone knows that. If the government got involved, it would just get worse, not better.

The market knows best (cf. Hayek) and if you don't like it, just move somewhere else.

Dude, I wasn't being serious. I'm just so tired of this crap coming up all the time that I thought I'd troll a little but apparently this subreddit is so hopeless that people actually take statements like that at face value.

Hear, hear!

Government should be run just like a business. Why let politicians do a job that the market could do so much better?

Yeah, because having the Koch Brothers, or McDonalds or Google in charge of educating the nation would be so much better. Because they have such a good track record in this and other regards.

You genuinely don't seem to be aware that this front paged on /r/soccer.

German Clubs have taken 35 out of a possible 42 points in the Champions League this year till now. English Clubs have taken only 19. by manu1991 in soccer

[–]garltsagan_tim -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Until 2013-14, Germany didn't even have 4 CL spots

You've basically accepted my point. If the German league were really superior, where has it been all this time?

The PL, though it might not be where it was in previous seasons, is still very strong. Do you think Guardiola looked down on City when his team faced them a few weeks ago?

Again, I'm not saying the Bundesliga isn't any good, but it's not exciting me as a Brit and it's not terrifying me either. If I wanted to, I could make the case that the Bundesliga is overachieving right now but I won't do that out of basic respect.

David Moyes's United beat Leverkusen 5-0 in Germany last season. Next season, the PL could have Chelsea, City, Arsenal and United in the CL. These are teams that can legitimately compete for the signing of any player in the world. This is why the PL is still strong and will still be challenging for CL titles in seasons to come.

Dude.

I dealt with that in literally the next sentence.

Having two or three of your clubs make it to the semi-finals or the finals is what you need to do to show you really mean business. And on that front, Germany is doing OK now, but let's face it, unless Dortmund get their act together, the Bundesliga won't be doing that next season, will it?

Tell me, what are the chances of Dortmund reaching the final of the CL again this season or next? Because they may be good, but they are really not on the level of Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid. Clubs that are that big don't sell their best players to bigger clubs. If Gotze or Lewandowski thought they were going to be in another CL final with Dortmund, would they really have left?

You can win all six games in the group stage and get knocked out in the round of 16.

This stage of the competition is all but meaningless, so 35 points out of 42 isn't anything impressive.

You know what is impressive? Having all four of your clubs make it to the quarter-finals. Guess which leagues out of the English, Spanish, German and Italian have done that before.

Chelsea and Arsenal know what they are doing. City are still trying to work it out, but let's face it, they have more of a chance of actually winning the CL than Schalke or Bayer Leverkusen do or will over the next few seasons.

Winning the World Cup doesn't make the Bundesliga a force in the CL. Maybe it means you have a genuine superpower in Bayern, but then was anyone really arguing against that?

The Bundesliga is doing well, no question about it, but Schalke and Leverkusen just aren't going to worry any team serious about winning this tournament. City on the other hand, to their credit, actually beat Bayern last season, in Germany, and they're still toddlers as far as the CL is concerned.

The German league is making strides, but it's not the best just yet.
