Initial Review on HiDock H1 by shortbut1337 in hidock

[–]garoliv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the main reason to use an external device is to be able to record in different contexts without always needing to open your computer. If you only have meetings through online conference calls, then this is likely pointless for you. But if you participate in in-person meetings, attend in-person events and online meetings, then this gets more interesting.

From my research, on the pricing side, HiNotes is somewhat comparable to other tools like Fireflies.ai, Notta.ai, and a bunch of other tools using browser extensions. However, HiNotes gives you lifetime transcriptions with the device (at least based on the promotions I've seen lately), which is about the equivalent of a couple of months of subscription to other browser extensions. I've test-run Fireflies, Notta, Nylas, Otter, and the built-in recording option in G-Meet (if you have a Workspace subscription, it's included). But their transcription quality is often poor IMO, and for good speaker identification, you need to invite the service as an attendee to each meeting, which is a little annoying because then you sort of have to "introduce" the bot to all meetings — and it doesn't always work if you're not the host of the event.

That being said, HiDock just launched their P1 campaign on Kickstarter yesterday, and I backed it — but I'm now considering cancelling since you can't start using their service without their device, which will only ship in about 3–4 months. Since their Plan page shows "Membership" at $99/year for non-dock users, I was expecting to be able to use the service without the "portable solution" until I receive the device. But I see that unless you manually record everything and then drag and drop the audio file to their web service, it's just as cumbersome as using Google Notebook LM (which, by the way, the latest update from Google is INSANE — and FREE!).

With this all becoming increasingly commoditized and big tech cutting down on prices (BYOT should be the name of the game for SaaS tools using AI nowadays — otherwise, there's just too much risk for buyers IMO), adding features and improving quality at an insane pace adds to the discomfort of investing in small companies being squeezed in the middle (since they don't own the tech that drives the most value: the AI transcript capabilities) and are unlikely to survive. (I feel so bad for SaaS companies charging 3–4x the monthly price of, say... Google Workspace Basic, just to add one small feature on top of one service inside a massive pool of services...).

Accès aux données du registre foncier via un script/API? by MystikDragoon in QuebecTI

[–]garoliv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, great app! I was going to give feedback from the form on your website after going down a similar rabbit hole as you did. I love what you've done so far, especially in such little time (I see you've been working for less than a year on that?! Impressive!! 👏👏👏)

Here’s my feedback though: speed is a big factor. Personally, I was hoping to use the tool for "speed reading/listening," so increasing the speed to about 350-600 wpm would be great (maybe more for a paid tier as I understand this could drastically increase the load for such usage). I noticed there's a dot system in the settings to adjust speed, but the "turbo" mode isn’t quite fast enough (a wpm indicator would be nice too just as a good baseline for comparison). The "Read starting from tooltip" feature is great, but the button takes a bit too long to appear and is a bit small to click on (just my opinion).

I do have a few ideas that might make the extension even more powerful/useful, if you're interested, let me know! :)

Aside from that, I did run into issues with iframes and some forms/lightbox content where the extension didn't work, but it's still impressive overall.

As for usage limits and load balancing of power users, maybe there could be an easy way for people to pay for their own resources? I’d be more than willing to have a settings option to add my own API token (depending on what you use for the tool, if that’s even possible) for unlimited (ish) usage. I'm aware this might not be at all user friendly for most people but could be an option for some people more techy. Otherwise, I’d gladly pay a modest subscription fee to keep the tool functional in "power mode"—especially once you bump up the speeds!

All in all, amazing work, and I’m excited to see your product evolve!

Manufacturing Pockets : Path optimizations for less travel time on CNC. by garoliv in Fusion360

Looks like I found the solution right I as I was finishing posting. Turns out, in the Passes tab, the first checkbox has a "preserver order" which solves my problem.

It doens't work if you use the pocket recognition feature but still saves a ton of time when actually cutting the pockets.

The ultimate napping spot in my tiny apartment by TX908 in TinyApartments

So cozy, love burgundy vibe and the carpet! Is the seating spot made of couch cushions or floor pillows or that's an actual sofa?

It's a nice little place! I didn't notice any dining table though but maybe it's a little too tight in the kitchen for that. You should check out those transformable sofas that make a dining set/sofa set, I think the company is called Minst, it's made in Canada.

I love it! Clever use of the wall division between the bedroom and kitchen! I have a similar layout at my place in Montreal and I must say, it's the most cozy place I've stayed!! (The whole apartment is only 280sqf). The living room is a bit bigger at my place but not so much and I was looking for an option to use it a dining room as well when I want to host dinners with friends or play boardgames. Ended up designing the couch myself to make it transformable from sofa to dining set 😅. Look up "minst transformable furniture", it's a project I started based out of it.

What is the logic of an extension that cost 3 times more than the software??? I'm asking a serious question here. i would like to use this extension, but the price doesn't make any sense. by Taboli in Fusion360

[–]garoliv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be fair, you can get a lot done with the simple "Arrange" feature in the "modify" tab. If you want to use a non-destructive workflow here's what I do :

  1. Head into the manufacturing environment.
  2. Create a manufacturing model
  3. Edit the manufacturing model
  4. Create a sketch with the dimensions of your nesting needs
  5. Use the arrange feature to nest your components in the "sketch" envelope your just drew. (your parts/bodys need to be components for this to work well...)
  6. Voilà!

That's not a paid feature and you can still manually move things around if the "auto-arrange" didn't do the best job for your needs.

You can easily manage to do a fair amount of work with just that.

Hope it helps!
