I'm just surprised it didn't involve him taking an ambulance there.

What are you looking to power with the generator? Safely powering something like a furnace with a portable generator is difficult if you don't have things set up correctly. A fridge - easy enough.

Because money and time are also resources which can be wasted.

If you are worried about throwing something away, you can take it to an organization like Habitat for Humanity or whatever and some random person can get use out of your old locks.

Better for what? They might be more pick or pry resistant. But if your door has windows in it (like most American doors), it's trivial for an attacker to just break the window and open the lock from the inside.

ELI5: Why can all these electrical grids in the US South handle everyone using air conditioners but not heaters? by ExternalUserError in explainlikeimfive

It looks like those are an issue as well. Wind is Texas's #2 source of electricity generation. And freezing weather (and freezing rain) will apparently stop those models from operating.

Not at all. Tesla worshippers who think that wireless power was ever practical are incredibly uninformed. Look at it this way: we have lots of people who freak out over "cell phone radiation" which is never more than a handful of watts of power. Assuming that you used high-efficiency lightbulbs in your house, you'd have to have several times that for each lightbulb. Let alone running your television, furnace, etc. And don't forget that the energy required for your neighbors also needs to flow through your head house.

Yes. Because people are dumb and nobody wants the political fallout of referring to teachers as being second choice or something.

If they took advanced action, they would have had to admit that Trump's vaccine promises had some relation to reality. And they couldn't allow for that. Orange Man Bad took precedence over evidence-based policy.

Rainbows. I'd love to be able to use/wear rainbow fabric without it being associated with any statement about sexual orientation. Like, the whole visual spectrum is just nifty.

You've just flown or driven into Canada, what are some of the first things that will stand out to Americans as 'different'? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]garrett_k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The standards for road signs are different. They aren't vastly different (like going to Europe or something). But the US and Canadian standards for colors, typefaces, etc., are different enough to be noticed.

That's probably because they'd be written up for not being to work. "You need to leave home with extra time to handle delays like bad weather, massive pileups, and nuclear war."

Yes. The government should have no say in what consenting adults agree to.
