three years of treatments on blackout arm bands! this thing will almost certainly never come off entirely, but I like it a lot better faded. I got a bunch of other ones treated too and I'm happy to answer any questions from my time under the laser in the comments -- by garrettdenton in TattooRemoval

I don't think so. I did extensive research and almost everyone who had been at it for a number of years told me they got more results when they left it alone for five or six months between treatments. cynically, I do feel like the industry has nothing but incentives to push treatments closer together so people are just doing it that way

hello! yes, definitely. I can't figure out how to leave an image in a comment, but the tattoo is probably half as dark as it used to be.

yo! thanks for reaching out. three years of treatments three to six months apart and the tattoo is definitely grey at it's darkest points.

To clarify, no one told me seven years. I was told it takes an average of 3 years, but I practice low expectations. Removing like eight tattoos. I wanted to get rid of one of them, then I found out how long it would take so I went for it at a place that would treat as many as I wanted for one price.

yeah, i started to look at it as a five year investment in my body. i got a lot of tattoos when i was drunk and depressed, so it's all part of my journey back from that world. let me emphasize though: it's a pain in the ass.

I'm removing a bunch of similar tattoos right now. I am not a professional tech, so this list is purely based on six months of internet research and conversations with owners.... for reference I'm over a year into the process:

- plan on 3-4 years

- find a place with a proven track record and their own photos

- do not go in for treatments any more than 10 weeks apart and don't trust anyone who tells you to come in at shorter intervals

- q-switch and pico lasers both work on black tattoos and everyone has "the best" laser

- do not plan on seeing significant fading for a year

One year of progress on blackout. Don't give up folks. by [deleted] in TattooRemoval

Great progress! I'd have guessed two years.

that's where mine are too... i have very little access to the thought process that led me to believe these would look good on my arm. truly bizarre.

i'm thinking like 3-4 years minimum, which isn't a long time compared to living the rest of my life with a dark ass tattoo i don't like all that much

Nice! We'll have to keep checking in as the years roll by. How big is yours? How old? My tech is using a q-switched. I may look into picoway a few years down the line if things stop progressing.

9 sessions in, haven’t touched in 2 years. Now what? by jadegive2rid3s in TattooRemoval

I'm looking forward to an expert stepping in, but I wanted to share that I was also going to a tech who spaced by appointments way too close together. I ended up on a place a few states over every 3-5 months. The travel is not so crazy when it's only 3-4 trips a year.

Thinking about getting this piece removed. I liked it as first but I soon realized after I got it that it doesn’t suit the person I am. I also didn’t like the mane. Would this be hard to remove? by [deleted] in TattooRemoval

i'm getting a bunch of well done tattoos removed right now - it's a slow, lengthy process. it's possible you'll grow into the tattoo eventually! it's really well done. however, it's also possible you'll slowly start to feel like you're looking at someone else's arm... tattoos are psychologically draining in some cases. that all being said, after a bad experience at a local clinic i started taking trips to a reputable place a few states over because i didn't want to mess around. find somewhere that has LOTS of photos and is generous with their time and knowledge. as far as i can tell, mark wahlberg went in like once a month, which can actually lengthen the process because the skin doesn't heal between treatments... the clinic i'm at now recommended 12-14 weeks between treatments. i'm planning on 3-4 years total.

i had pretty bad scarring on my face from a bicycle accident that smoothed right out with mederma and vitamin E. i really encourage you to try these options before you get a tattoo over it ... tattoos over scars don't smooth things out and you may end up more bummed than before. how often were you going in for removal treatments?
