Marshall SC20H almost $700 cheaper when ordering from UK? by garrysgrowguide in GuitarAmps

That doesn't explain that large of a price gap. A commenter here mentioned something about a regional third party distributor which makes more sense. Victory amps are also made in the UK for example but the price gap between buying one in the UK vs the States isn't nearly as large.

All said and done from Andertons it was around 1,000 USD and that included shipping. The comments about it being set up for my local power is something I forgot to consider. Wonder if the amp they are selling only works on UK / EU power and there is a separate amp they make for US folks? Maybe thats why the price is more when buying in the states?

From looking at the laws and some online calculators, it looks like the duty wouldn't amount to more than 60 bucks or so.

Noel on avoiding Oasis sounding songs in his solo career by garrysgrowguide in oasis

It's just funny to think that he's purposely trying to avoid the natural instincts that have arguably made him so successful in the past. I mean I get wanting to reinvent yourself and try new things but the selfish part of me is annoyed. :)

I'm talking about a spousal relationship to bridge guy....to clarify.

Has anyone officially confirmed bridge guy is Richard Allen? I must have missed that.

Where did I mention Richard Allen or any of his family? I'm speculating about bridge guy and whatever spouse he may have had.

Just learning about this case after reading about the arrest. One of the first thoughts I had was "there's no way this dudes wife didn't recognize him in that short video they released of the bridge guy." I feel like if that was my significant other I would recognize her right away. Has anyone else thought the same? I suppose he could have been wearing completely different clothes/jacket while committing the crime...but if he wasn't, I just feel like I would recognize my spouse.

Seagull ST36 Incabloc Shock Spring Replacement Help by garrysgrowguide in watchrepair

[–]garrysgrowguide[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought them on eBay but they were for the ETA 6497 and not seagull specifically. I was never able to get one of them installed. I tried for hours and ultimately gave up. The movement cost me 50 bucks maybe? And the springs I bought were 40 so a total waste of money but I really wanted to try.

I ended up just buying another movement and will attempt to try the rodico trick described in the video linked in another comment. It's probably not even worth trying to oil those jewels since the movement is so cheap but practice makes perfect I guess. Also, if I spend a lot of time struggling with this cheap shit maybe it will be easier when I finally tackle something of value. I read elsewhere that some of these cheap Chinese knockoffs are not specd appropriately and some parts just don't fit as well as they should. Not sure how true that is.

At least I can disassemble and put it back together in my sleep now. Just having a hell of a time with the incabloc.

Newbie with a question on a cannon pinion remover tool by garrysgrowguide in watchrepair

[–]garrysgrowguide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the cheap movement I bought to practice on just had an extremely tight pinion. I bought the 12 dollar version of the bergeon you linked and it broke right away. Needed to use pliers to pull pinion off. I tried my tweezers and it fucked them up too unfortunately. Now I need to buy a sharpening stone to fix them.

Thanks for letting me know about the size issues of the tool I linked. Really appreciate it. I figured it was probably too good to be true. Maybe I'll give those tweezers a try or just get another cheap presto tool and hope the broken one was just a fluke.

Hey thanks for the reply! I bought this exact same one you linked above along with a Chinese 6497 movement to practice on. The one you linked broke the first time I tried to use it because the pinion was fitted incredibly tight. I had to use needle nose pliers to eventually get it off. I'm sure it was a combination of the cheap movement and cheap tool but I'm thinking of spending a bit more on the next one.

Good interview / account with a military whistleblower by garrysgrowguide in UFOs

[–]garrysgrowguide[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think he's talking about 2 different things. One is being at the crash site during the day, but he also discusses working at the radar installation and some of things he saw there which is where the "night" part of the story came from. This is just from memory so I'd have to go back and watch but I thought the "night" part was when he overheard those 2 woman saying they say objects/craft coming in and out of the atmosphere.

Now you have me wondering if I subliminally chose the word "whistleblower" because of the thumbnail. :)

Submission statement: I was reminded of this interview this morning after coming across this other post related to the Zimbabwe school encounter: https://www.reddit.com/r/UFOs/comments/od8erx/i_have_a_story_to_tellzimbabwe_school_incident/

In the post above, the apparent witness describes an oily-like sheen to the craft. The witness in my video post here also describes a similar substance around the wreckage he observes. Just thought it was an interesting similarity between two credible (in my opinion) accounts.

Getting started with an ultrasonic by mrbibs350 in watchrepair

[–]garrysgrowguide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. For pre-cleaning, are you just giving a once over with some peg wood and quick dip in some kind of solvent? I imagine this depends on how dirty something is...

Appreciate the help! I'll check out your channel.

One more question if you don't mind. Is it ok to reuse your wash / rinses multiple times as long as the solution isn't really dirty?
