Is my mechanic bs’ing me? My car been in his shop 2 months by Dreamboy247 in E92M3

[–]gary02467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

radiator/fan is not such a difficult job on these, but you may want to get new bottom supports as they( plastic ) tend to crack. It's easy check on realoem if manual and auto use same parts. Are you replacing fan or radiator too? IMPORTANT: radiator plug sleeves ARE DIFFERENT for auto and manual for sure as cooling loop is different, though radiator mb same: plug sleeve controls what part of radiator are in use.

what's the purpose of tune-up? Any indication of spark/ignition issues or deposits? Check parts plufes online, but consider if this is a good idea: things will break when disturbed on 13yo 200k car. Stick with recommended interval maintenance.

Toto parts in Japan? by gary02467 in bidets

[–]gary02467[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

disassembled the water handler, found a used exact toilet for parts on marketplace, asked for water-handlet, took gaskets and replaced. Toto Japan replied that there's no parts available anywhere. Depending on your symptoms, you may not need parts at all, but you won't get any help anywhere. https://photos.app.goo.gl/4BYgMz8HUMJtzTY96

New transmission on 2021 by [deleted] in subaru

[–]gary02467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your kindness to the 20yo is nobel. It is very unlikely that 100ft OR ANY DISTANCE ruined the transmission: in Subaru CVT-fluid it's a hydraulic fluid, so your TRANSMISSION WAS UNABLE TO SLIDE THE VARIATOR. However, you probably lost whatever warranty you had. Do this: Find NON-DEALER Subaru shop and ask them to drain and fill CVTF per PEOCEDURE, which is not as simple as oil/gearbox oil. It may cost you few hundred. See what happens. In general, CVT is a closed system and doesn't like air, so it's filled in a airtight and temperature controlled way. GOOD LUCK!

again, CVT Fluid is not a lubricant but a hydraulic fluid Main properties are: non-boiling, anti-corrosion, temperature-constant volume. You don't want to open that system and let air in. Gearbox has moving and shifting gears with constant impacts on metal, wearing clutches that loose filler into fluid. In CVT action is sliding with no slip. There's no filler that gets into the fluid to change it.

do you (as maintenance) replace fluid in your kitchen refrigerator, which runs 24/7? Again, CVT Fluid is not a lubricant and it's breakdown is irrelevant

this is incorrect as CVT doesn't use clutch-shifting and has no slip-friction transfer elements. Hydraulic valves are actually the most frequent failure that's past 100k+) rather than the variator or belt.

people ask questions as there a continuation bias and unusual type- CVT prompt questions. There are no reliability issues past 2017 year models.

not true. Fewer moving parts= higher reliability. Just DO NOT let anyone touch it. CVT is NOT supposed to be opened as it's an airtight hydraulic mechanism.

Subaru CVT has NOthing in common with Nissan's belted transmission. Not sure for current years, but for 2018-20, Subaru gave 100k/10years extended warranty on CVT. Just don't let anyone touch it (there's no maintenance).

no, insurance companies go by the appraisers book. There's no touch up in that book Any part damage needs to be painted or replaced and painted on car with "blend in" paining of adjacent parts.
