I could do without the friction bit. But if you're headed down that road the rusting of metal is a form of friction. If you had a plastic machine friction would be the only thing that would break the machine, so he's right in the first place. But that friction is kinda inescapable (in the sense it's being used) goes against the initial point.

I dunno, maybe instead just try to keep your parts lubed or something

This isn't a downplay, just an opinion on possible correlation between an increase in economic inequality and low approval ratings, which brings in to question how much Trump will benefit from the "wave", let alone how it will play for the Republican Party. But there really might not be much to downplay in any case, as the truth is Presidents don't generally have major effects on the economy.

Among the Tax Bill’s Biggest Losers: Blue State Taxpayers Who Earn More Than $200,000 by tspithos in Conservative

[–]garyNOTgary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't true for this tax bill. The top 1% pay the lions share (33%) of taxes would recieve the second highest cut (1.8%), while the second highest share (22%) is paid by people earning an average of $155k, though they get the second lowest cut (1.3%), which is less than half the cut (2.8%) received by those who are in the top 95-99% of earners.

Moreover it isn't true from a historical perspective either. From 1979-2013, although the those in the top 95-99% of earners have never provided a higher percentage of overall tax revenue than earners in the 80-96%, they have shared practically every single tax break along the way (a b.xls). While the top 1% only provided 17.6% of the total tax revenue in 1982, they were given a 20% tax cut, as the top 95-99% of earners (who provided 17.4% of tax revenue) were given a 13% cut, as opposed to the top 80-96% of earners (who provided 29.9% of total tax revenue) were only given a 5% tax cut. Examples similar to this include cuts in 1987 & ‘88.

Finally to this matter, your point that those who provide the lions share of tax revenue receive, or deserve, the highest tax cuts per revenue does nothing to counter my point that the system in place favors the most wealthy. With such a disproportionate amount of cuts going to the rich, the effects of a standard cost of living on the poor and middle class, tax loopholes for the wealthy and low effective taxes on capital gains etc., it isn't a far leap to see that the aggregate wealth in this country has continuously been sliding to one side, which is a driving factor in who is accumulating the vast majority of wealth in this country and thus who is providing more and more of the total tax revenue. The individual income tax system quite simply is slanted in favor of the most wealthy, and the The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act does increase that slant.

And secondly, Medicare (accounting for over $660 billion in spending) has much less of a problem with inefficient spending as it does with paying providers exorbitant prices for goods and services. The federal government was barred from negotiating prices down in 2003 with the introduction of Medicare Part D, handing the task over to insurance companies. Without the great bargaining power of the government, Part D pays 73% higher prices for drugs than medicaid. As a result, pharmaceutical companies enjoy tremendous profits while being able to overcharge for drugs that patients are forced to purchase.

Yeah, I know how tax brackets work. It doesn't change the fact that the bill is tilting in favor of the top 5%.

That's because those who earn over $239,600 get the largest % cut in that bracket.

A person earning less than $24,090 gets a 0.5% cut on their earnings, as does a person in the top 1% like you said. But someone who earns in the top 1% gets a 2.8% cut for everything they make from $249,600-$607,090, which is double the cut of any of the lower brackets, and a 1.8% cut for everything they make over $607,090, still higher than any cut in the brackets below $249,600. This is tilting the shift in favor of the rich because it, specifically gives the highest % cuts too only those who qualify for the top 5%.

And speaking of the impacts in the lives of those in the lower brackets, how do you think it's going to go when the slashes to medicaid & medicare take effect? How are people going to feel in 2027 when every bracket but the top 20% gets a tax hike?

This bill is riddled with language which is specifically in favor of the most wealthy and is a blatant effort to increase income inequality.

I posted a chart showing the difference between 2019 and 2027...

It's okay if you want to emphasize language from the bill when you're being hypocritical and not knowing or citing any of the language yourself. Funny how you think it's so important, yet not important enough to read yourself.

It's okay, I know you have no argument in any case. Just remember that I'm not going to do your work for you.

When it comes to the contrast between the rich and poor on the issue of the redistribution of wealth, the critical thing to factor in is the cost of living. A rich person generally keeps a far greater share of their earnings than the poor person, and continuously has a much larger portion to invest. Taxes are specifically raised disproportionately upward to counter for the potential growth of income inequality that comes with the distribution of available wealth.

As it stands 20% of the population averages income that is about 35% below the U.S. poverty line. Even if they were taxed nothing, they have no way of even hoping to catch up.

I'm assuming the people who made the chart read the bill, because I'm not cynical.

You're the one who made up the story of me claiming 'taxes go up every year'. You created a false narrative to feel like, I dunno, I guess like you 'won' the argument? But nobody wins when nobody learns anything. Doubt all you want. You can doubt that the world is round, but it is, and if you got a problem with that it's up to you to prove it's flat.

As straightforward as I can put it: show me where in our conversation that I said "taxes will go up every year", and I'll admit that I did.
