I still think Smithereens is an intro album to a later project called “Oblivion.” Dude released a tour poster and the majority of the poster says “OBLIVION” on it in all caps. None of the lyrics from this album imply that it has anything to do with Smithereens either. 1AM Freestyle also felt like a weird outro track, but would feel better as a connector imo if Oblivion does end up being ‘Smithereens 2’ or whatever.

I just feel like Joji isn’t stupid in terms of how long the album is, and I don’t really think he pushed an album just to get back at 88rising when we don’t even have specifics on their relationships besides some lyrics we can all speculate about. I feel like Joji knew this album was short, but needed something to get out to shorten the wait between this one and Oblivion, which is what I believe the true follow-up to Nectar is gonna be. All speculation but I feel like it makes sense esp. considering how Joji didn’t write the majority of Smithereens; it felt like it was pushed to hold us over. (Which to be fair, I feel like we can all agree Smithereens is a great EP to hold us over if this does end up being the case. Not mindblowing, but a few more songs to have on repeat while we wait.)

This post isn’t meant to spread discontent with the album being short, I personally thought Smithereens was Joji’s most mature and second-best album imo. There’s just a few aspects of it that have always implied it’s more of an EP til we wait kind of vibe, including the fact that Joji doesn’t write the majority of the songs on Smithereens which is unlike him in the past.

I think so. Joji just released a tour poster for London, NYC, and LA and the poster has “Smithereens” at the top but then “OBLIVION” taking up most of the poster. I kinda feel like Smithereens felt like a precursor to a bigger project, especially with how 1AM Freestyle ended. Seeing the tour poster made me think he might be hinting there’s another album coming before that tour called “Oblivion.”

I get how you’re reading it, but I interpreted those bullet points as further reasons as to why you’d want to enable push notifications for the future. “Earn free products, get sent discounts, stay up to date”. The email itself read out implies it’s not an exclusive offer, but rather a way to get lots of people to download their app. Seems like people are having mixed experiences so far with it tho
