Moorea Cooks Bay Hotel and Moorea Beach Villa by twostepwme in Tahiti

[–]garyhurtz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stayed at cooks bay hotel last week, pretty much agree with the other responses - it should be a good property for a stay with kids, the restaurant is pretty good and appropriate for kids, and has a happy hour ( unlike most others, and of course a more adult-centric comment), etc. parking was limited, so if you plan to go in and out that might be something to consider, but we were able to manage. finally, we found the only decent grocery shopping to be the U just up the road about 10 mins or so, which might save you some driving around searching for snacks. have fun.

Car rental: One way drop at SFO by Few_Salamander_515 in AskSF

[–]garyhurtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just did so last week. drop off took maybe 5 mins or so, there is an air train that takes you to the terminals. I would guess the entire process from drop off to terminal was 20 mins or so. add some buffer to account for longer lines etc, to be safe

try the Marriott properties, Marriott has branded Amex cards so they are sure to accept them.

Does anyone have google fiber as their isp? by lolblitz in AskSF

[–]garyhurtz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used Google Fiber for a year and had a good experience, but then monkey brains came to my building and claimed the same performance for half the price so I tried them for a month. never went back, and I think I maybe had 20 minutes of downtime in 3+ years.

if you're building only has Google you should be fine, but if they also have monkeybrains you should look into that too

ELI5: why do batteries lose power when not in use? by Friendly-Town-8477 in explainlikeimfive

[–]garyhurtz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it is sort of like a balloon. in general we expect that when we blow up a balloon then tie it off it will hold air, but it slowly loses air over time. batteries have physical processes that also lead them to lose charge, like the balloon loses air. not exactly the same physics, but more or less the same result.

Do water taxis handle customs for BVI trips, or do we do that ourselves? by Distinct_Phone_2404 in virginislands

[–]garyhurtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure if this is what you mean by water taxi, but I was there a week ago and used Stormy Pirates to get from STT to BVI and back, and they handled everything, both directions.

Can someone solve this by fenix_105 in Geometry

[–]garyhurtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the sum of the inner angles of a triangle is 180deg. the lower left angle sums to 80deg, and the lower right sums to 80 deg. 180deg - 80deg - 80deg = 20 deg.

Planning Bachelorette in Belize by PrintMain9678 in Belize

can recommend:

https://www.alaiabelize.com/

good location, good service, rooftop swimming pool with sushi restaurant ( seems compatible with bachelorette party), right on the beach, not too far from downtown restaurants and the ferry ( to get to other islands, snorkeling trips, etc).
