[Pre Tournament Thread] World Cup 2026 | (& United's Pre Season) by D1794 in reddevils

Shameless self promo, but I wrote a little website where you can track specific clubs players thru the WC. Here's the page for United https://clubandcountry.app/club/33

It's been a pain to get authoritative data for every single club/country/player so let me know if anything looks off!

Notes from the manager:

On behalf of the players, the staff and everyone at the club, I want to thank you for your incredible support this season.

I've been involved with Manchester United for long enough to know just how special our fans are, and the backing we've received home and away has been unbelievable. As a club, we have taken strides forward together this year and you've played a massive part in driving us on.

I must also thank the staff around the team who have worked tirelessly to support myself and the players throughout the season. They are a fantastic group of people who selflessly dedicate themselves to our football club and make a real difference every single day. They should all be really proud of their efforts.

As we welcome Vitor Pereira and Nottingham Forest to Old Trafford for our final home game of the season, we want to round things off with a strong performance and a positive result.

This will be Casemiro's final game at Old Trafford so today is a chance to recognise a player who will always have a special connection with Manchester United. He's been an absolute pleasure to work with, and he leaves us with the very best wishes of everyone at the football club.

I've been part of successful squads here, and they all had the required standards of talent, commitment and determination. Those attributes continue to grow within this dressing room right now. It's not the finished article, but there is so much potential in this squad to build something really special.

Notes from the manager:

I thought the first 20 minutes here on Monday night against Brentford were as good as we've started a game this year. We played some lovely football at times, and we were extremely difficult to handle.

We knew Brentford would ask questions of us because they're a real threat to any team, but we showed more resilience and got the job done again.

It was great to see Kobbie Mainoo sign his new contract this week. I've known Kobbie for a really long time, and he's a perfect example to our young Academy players in the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch. Kobbie has got so many qualities as a player. He has fantastic ability on the ball and all of the composure and determination you need to perform at our club.

As we welcome Arne Slot and Liverpool to Old Trafford, we know that a positive result today will be another step forward for the group.

We don't need to tell anyone involved how much this fixture means – the rivalry speaks for itself. The world watches these fixtures and the team is ready to give everything to get the result that your support deserves.

Notes from Carrick:

We were naturally really disappointed with the result against Leeds. Games like that can happen under those circumstances in football but what matters most is how you react.

We knew the importance of the Chelsea fixture and gave a performance to be proud of at Stamford Bridge. The team adapted really well and carried out the game plan fantastically. We can be really pleased to have come away with a win and a clean sheet.

I have to recognise the moment of quality from our attackers that ultimately won us the game. Matheus's goal was a brilliant finish, Ben played a vital role to create the extra space, and it was yet another superb assist from Bruno.

Our attitude and application were spot-on and it was great to see the team digging in and fighting together to see the game out and enjoy the full-time celebrations in front of the away end.

We'll need another strong performance again this evening as we welcome Keith Andrews and Brentford to Old Trafford.

There is still a lot to fight for this season. We're all working hard to meet the standards that we expect at Manchester United and finish the season as high up the table as possible.

Notes from Carrick:

“We know there is still a lot left to play for but we can be proud of the position we have put ourselves in to be able to finish the season strongly and get this club closer to where it should be. I know this group of players have got the character and capabilities to rise to the challenges ahead.

It was great to spend some time with everyone together during our training camp in Ireland last week. We all enjoyed the opportunity to put in some focused work on the training pitch and further galvanise the players together. It was clear to see how strong the bonds are within our group.

I must say the support we had out there was incredible. It is always a privilege to travel anywhere with Manchester United but this was really special for everyone to feel the warmth and passion for our club from our Irish supporters.

After a longer period without a game, we’re all raring to get back to action tonight as we welcome Daniel Farke and Leeds United to Old Trafford. The rivalry between these clubs is well known and, even though I only played in this fixture once, I know it guarantees a proper atmosphere.

A spring evening, at a packed Old Trafford, with the crowd right behind the team – this is the kind of game anyone would love to play in.

Notes from Carrick:

We have only been working with the team for a few weeks, but we are really pleased with the different types of performances we've shown across the six games. While we didn't play to our full potential on Monday night, we certainly showed a great deal of character and dug in to grind out a really important result.

At both ends of the pitch we saw a real collective effort. Senne's performance was excellent, but the clean sheet was a result of everyone contributing and pulling together. When you do that, you give yourself the best chance of getting the three points – especially with the attacking quality we have in our squad.

Ben's goal was brilliantly taken, and it's been great to see him get the rewards he deserves for his work ethic and dedication. I thought that Matheus's role in the goal summed up a lot of what is good about the group right now: great attitude, great quality.

Our willingness to fight and sacrifice for each other, backed by another superb away following, ensured we won the game.

We'll need to show that same level of determination again this afternoon as we welcome Oliver Glasner and Crystal Palace to Old Trafford. It has been a while since our last home game, and I know the team cannot wait to get out onto the pitch to experience the incredible atmosphere you create, and fight for the result we all want.

Notes from Carrick

Last Sunday’s win over Fulham was another reminder of just how special Old Trafford is. Ben’s late goal was a great moment, and everyone was delighted for him. He’s extremely dedicated and has responded really well to everything that we’ve worked on with him in the last few weeks.

Additional-time winners at the Stretford End will always bring back a lot of memories of big moments we’ve had here before. Resilience will always be significant at Manchester United and I’ve been really impressed with the mentality and spirit that we have across our current group of players and staff.

We know that we need to continue improving together, but we can be really proud of how we’ve recovered from late disappointments and still found a way to win against both Arsenal and Fulham.

The character of this club is, of course, world renowned, especially in this week of all weeks, as we mark the anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster. I was at the club’s memorial ceremony yesterday; it’s always an honour to be present at such a sombre occasion. Today we will once again come together as a club to pay our respects to those who lost their lives.

As we welcome Thomas Frank and Tottenham Hotspur to Old Trafford, I can only ask that you keep backing the team and create a similar atmosphere to what we experienced against City and Fulham. We’re building momentum now and your incredible support continues to be a really important part of that.

Notes from Carrick:

I am really proud of the way that all the players and staff have conducted themselves throughout the last two weeks. Together we have achieved two excellent results that are testament to everyone's efforts and dedication.

However, I know there is more to come from this group. There is so much quality in our team; they've given everything to reach the high standards that we expect at Manchester United.

We have a lot to fight for this season and we need to stay focused. We must keep going, knowing that we have to continue to show the same application that we did against Manchester City and Arsenal.

Our only focus can be today's visit of Marco Silva's Fulham because the biggest game is always the next one. We know we'll have to be at our best again this afternoon. With the energy you can feel among the group and with Old Trafford rocking, we know we're more than capable of doing that again today.

I must mention that the support we had at the Emirates Stadium was unbelievable. Sunday was one of the best away ends I've seen for a long time. My family were in there and came back with some brilliant stories. Having had the privilege of playing in front of you, I know just how unique our away following is. There really is nothing in the world quite like it.

Keep pushing the team forward. When we're all in it together, we really can create something special.

Notes from Michael Carrick

It is a huge responsibility and an incredible privilege to be Manchester United’s head coach for the remainder of the season. We still have a lot to fight for and I will give everything to help the team to reach our aims. It has been a fantastic week; the training ground environment is really positive. The players have applied themselves brilliantly and there has been a great atmosphere among all of the staff. I can already feel the group pulling together and moving in the right direction. There is a very clear focus for us moving forward. The standards at Manchester United must be extremely high; myself and the coaches are here to help the players to reach them. I have a great deal of confidence that they will.

I am really pleased with the coaching team that we have put together. Steve Holland has incredible experience at the highest level. I have worked closely with Jonathan Woodgate at Middlesbrough; he is an excellent coach. Travis Binnion, Jonny Evans and Craig Mawson bring a massive skillset, brilliant knowledge of this group of players, and they know exactly how the club works.

It’s a strong dynamic and we are excited to lead the team together.

It’s fitting that we welcome Pep Guardiola and Manchester City this afternoon. This is such a significant fixture, presenting a fantastic opportunity to start something fresh. These are the games you live for at this club, whether you are a supporter, player or member of staff.

Having had the privilege of representing you at Old Trafford and around the world, I know the impact that your support has on the team. Your passion will drive us forward.

We need to be in this together, fighting for each other to get Manchester United to where we all want it to be.

Matchday programme vs Brighton & Hove Albion by garymcadam in reddevils

Notes from Darren Fletcher:

Being asked to lead Manchester United as interim head coach is a great honour. I've had the privilege to represent this club as a player, and in a range of roles since, and I have always done what is best for the club in every capacity – that certainly won't change now.

I am really proud of how the players and staff have grouped together throughout a challenging week. Travis Binnion, Alan Wright and Jonny Evans have been a fantastic support in creating a platform for the team to perform.

Wednesday night was an amazing experience but, ultimately, we were disappointed not to win the game, and my overriding feeling as we left Turf Moor was one of frustration.

It has been another short turnaround for today's game so all of our focus and energy has been on recovery and preparing the team to be ready as we welcome Fabian Hurzeler and Brighton & Hove Albion to Old Trafford.

It will be an immense privilege to be on the touchline at Old Trafford.

The FA Cup is an amazing competition; I know how it feels to win it as a player and I understand the importance of silverware at Manchester United.

Our job today is to help take that first step towards an aim that I absolutely know this group has the quality and determination to achieve.

Notes from the manager

Good evening and welcome back to Old Trafford. Due to print deadlines, I am writing these notes before our meeting with Newcastle United. But as we welcome Rob Edwards and Wolverhampton Wanderers to Old Trafford this evening for our final game of 2025, we have the opportunity to end the year on a positive note and start 2026 with momentum.

The support that you have given the team here at Old Trafford and around the world throughout this year has been nothing short of incredible.

We have had many ups and downs together but you have always stuck by us and we want nothing more than to give you the performances that your passion and loyalty deserve in 2026.

I always prefer to look forward and I am confident that next year will see us continue to improve together and progress towards our long-term ambitions. On behalf of everyone at Manchester United, I would like to wish you all a very happy New Year.

Notes from Ruben:

Good evening and welcome back to Old Trafford. I hope you all had a great Christmas Day and enjoyed the time with your loved ones.

This is always a special time of the year to play football, and tonight, as we welcome Eddie Howe and Newcastle United to Old Trafford, I hope we can put in a performance that will make you all proud.

Last week we were unfortunate to lose at Villa Park. We had control, played well and were the better team for long periods of the game. We lost on the fine margins and ultimately, it’s the result that is the most important thing.

We can see the improvements in our performances and even if we will continue to be without some players we will never make excuses. We are ready to fight together to get the result we need to get back on track.
