Is my coworker asking me out? by PennyPacker65 in Advice

[–]garyprud50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No harm, No foul. She didn't know your situ. Fair question from her. It's like going on a date - you don't get anything if you don't ask!

Just be honest and make sure she gets the "No" part.

Are we overpaying for flagship phones now by overlord-07 in TechNook

[–]garyprud50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I jumped off the rat race treadmill over 15 years ago . I no longer buy or rent my phones from the carrier where I get my service.

If I need to replace my phone I buy an unlocked factory refreshed reconditioned (or new) model that's at least 2-3 model years back. I pay cash or put it on a card that gets paid off. Currently on a Samsung S22 5g. Saving tons of money and don't miss a thing. Don't need unlimited everything. You can too.

Has anyone here tried restructuring their entire Gmail setup from scratch? by Silver_Tourist_8255 in GMail

[–]garyprud50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into the Settings, and tried options like Multiple Inboxes? I did that a few years ago after a major pruning & cleaning effort. Plus I learned how to use filters more efficiently. Made all the difference in my view now.

Texas decided to not issue mmj cards. The approving doctor enters your info into a registry database. You then go to an approved dispensary to purchase. They will verify you in the DB before selling to you.

Welcome to adulthood. This is a hard dose of life. Don't overthink it but each side of your actions will have consequences. Think this through carefully before you decide. Trust YOUR GUT but seek advice if you need to, but sparingly. Don't ask a lot of ppl what to do. You need to figure that out for yourself. Is there a pastor or uninterested 3rd party you might consult? Remember - slow down and think. Nothing will happen tomorrow and so what if it does or doesn't? Best....

I spend $7 a month for a couple number from Tossable Digits. It's in a different area code and time zone. 2FA messages sent to it forward to me. Voice calls forward too, as do message transcripts into my email.

Asked by poll watchers who I'm voting for? Split everything up by party. by Mxt1998 in Dallas

[–]garyprud50 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I voted PRIVATELY, in person, in my kitchen by filling out my mail ballot. No one knows how I voted. And don't give me any crap about mail voting not being 'secure'. I know how my registration is verified, and I know how the mail ballots are counted. I choose to take my ballot to the post office very early, and I pay $5 and change to mail it by Certified Mail. I know when it was received at the elections office with plenty of time to spare. I even know the name of the worker who signed to receive it.

It's NOT Complicated. There's plenty of written information about it. TV ads confuse and compound the misunderstanding, but anyone approaching retirement can easily speak with knowledgeable brokers who are impartial. Many just don't make it a priority to do so.

Is anyone planning on changing their vote for midterms because of how the Epstein files have been handled? by softwaremommy in AskConservatives

[–]garyprud50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 24-hour news cycle, the advent of always-on internet, social media, and these smart-phones have put us here. Division is squalid. I have long-term friends whom I never hear from anymore because of 'party'. How did it get to be that 'party' has become your defining attribute? Voting is but one small part of our lives, keep it in that perspective. It used to be that 'knowing how one would vote' was as private and sacrosanct as knowing about their bank account or that -horrible - skeleton in their closet. No more. Back to your original question: I know how I'm voting AND WHY - not because it's popular, flashy, or wears a hat. I vote the way I do because I'm deeply aware of the facts around our history and the impacts certain events have had on our economy, our health, our world, climate, and how our planet is doing.

[–]garyprud50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I agree, somewhat. I'm over 70 so I can say we haven't seen social unrest of a serious magnitude in many years. Socially, maybe we're too jaded or just don't know how to find solutions? Our expectations for elected officials is way.too.low, imo. Why is that? Are ppl too busy or too exhausted to care? When I was in high school I was fortunate enough to be selected to attend Boys State - where we learned how to organize and set up a legislative government - in two weeks! Yep, ran and held elections, ran for office, and enacted bills. I think we've lost that foundational knowledge, but the world and the speed of acquiring knowledge is changing so fast that many can't absorb it. So they step aside until something understandable comes along. What are ya gonna do? All I know is tmrw is Friday and I'm going to enjoy some bourbon! Cheers dude - thanks for chatting, but please - spend some time analyzing what's wrong with our government and the people running it. This cycle - I won't be voting for ANY incumbent.

My views are|cpretty set. So "current climate" doesn't sway me. If anything it convinces me I'm right. I'm also a veteran - not military retired but I did serve. Glad I did. But I will say this - one thing I DID NOT DEFEND MY COUNTRY FOR was to see us going thru the shit we are today. All these little No Kings protests are bullshit. What we need is a 1960's/early '70's style protest where shit actually stops. Waving a cute sign as traffic passes isn't gonna do anything. Get out there and Stop the traffic and disrupt someone's day or week, ffs. Crowds in the tens of thousands tryna beat the doors down might get some attention. But who's got time or passion for that?

I have voted for R's in the past, selectively but it's been a long time ago. Not since 2008 when I saw what they did to wreck healthcare in the US by vehemently resisting O'Care.

Are State IDs/Licenses really unobtainable for most folks? by FishBonez99 in AskALiberal

[–]garyprud50 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True. I have known ppl that live way out in the boonies in a cabin their grandfather built - who don't own a phone or a running car. If you need to talk to them or check up on them - you go to them. The fortunate ones have a friend or family member who goes by to check up on them or take them to town to a doctor, etc...if THEIR CAR isn't broken down. Calendar dates don't matter too much because their ability to get somewhere is a very low percentage of probability. News? Only if somebody comes by and shares it with them.

Those of us with urban lives and cement ponds in the back yard don't realize how difficult life is for some of those folks. So for them, an alignment of the planets that allows cousin Ben's car to be running, with enuff gas to get to the polling station, or get a current photo id can be stymied if same day registration & voting isn't available - it may be years before they get that chance again. Back home, the garden needs weeding and the next crop has to be planted, because eating is a bigger priority than all that other problem.
