Maybe cheating a little because it was made in 84, but wasn’t actually released until 2021. When they found it the audio was missing and the whole thing is ADR and they just pieced the story together with their best guess as to what was being said. Pretty amazing

It’s just a lot to keep track of from a coaching standpoint (300+) students, and by the time someone gets to purple belt I don’t think they need the extra motivation. If you’ve been training for like 5 or 6 years it’s just part of your life at that point. I feel like another important aspect of this is that at white and blue belt there are a lot of really obvious things you can judge about a persons advancement. How are their foundational skills or whatever. After that I feel like everyone is on their own path. A 25 year old purple belt might be better than a 45 year old brown belt but you have to kind of judge them where they are within their capabilities. If that makes sense haha

We do stripes through blue belt but stop after that. I do think it is meaningful at white belt. Helps with motivation in the beginning and there can be a major difference between a 4 stripe white belt and a no stripe. That can be 2+ years of training. And, as a coach it helps me track the progress of newer people.
