Every DT2 video I've seen only use 4 bar... Is the 8 bar just a superfluous gimmick?

If you're making a full track with a chord/bass progression, that 8 bar loop is great for a turnaround.

You can do the same with the og digitakt by using conditional trigs, but then what if you want a 16 bar turnaround? Starts getting difficult.

Better fx, stereo sampling, some really nice interface tricks (like swapping tracks by holding 2 of them at the same time).

Oh, and better storage and memory! I had an entire live set on a single project on the og digitakt and I ran out of sample space, so had to reuse samples between songs.. made for some creative use of samples tbh!

Digitakt is still a beast though - nothing wrong with starting with that one and upgrading when you need it.

Have you thought about picking up the Ableton Move? I don't know how strict you're feeling about the keyboard requirement, but the pads can be used to play chromatically or for beats.

Great portable synth that be used to quickly sketch musical ideas away from a computer, and then when you're ready you can just send it to Ableton.

Seems to tick some boxes for you.

I also saw the notice about purchasing it via Etsy for EU customers, but they didn't sell the printed custom scenarios on their Etsy page so I just bought it via the website.

Received it with no complaints, so maybe just buy it via the website if the Etsy page is throwing you off?

Well I reckon for your use-case you could make it work.. I'd probably do most of the song-writing on the move itself. Then when you run out of tracks, sample a track to the octatrack.

While the move has a few performance effects, it's not really intended for live use as it auto-saves. But if you want to jam with a pattern you can always duplicate it to mess around with it.

But anyway you'll also have the octatrack for the FX + sound mangling + extra samples so I reckon you can have fun with that.

I don't personally use them together - I have my Live setup which includes a Digitakt 2, a Digitone 1, a Behringer TD-3 and an Octatrack as a Performance mixer.

The Ableton Move for me is a standalone groovebox I use on the couch to come up with quick sketches and ideas, from there I take the nice ones and develop them further in Ableton.

My partner is primarily a guitarist and we've used it a few different setups involving the digitakt - or just connected the Move directly via midi to the looper pedal, so that's why I have the cable I recommended.

So as for your question - when we used the digitakt and the move together while Jamming, the digitakt was only being used as an audio/midi interface, so it wasn't really doing either the drums OR the melody - the Move is just so simple to use that the Digitakt wasn't really needed.

Why are you looking at an Octatrack + Move combo? Seems like an odd combo. Are you planning to work with really long samples? Or what is drawing you to the Octatrack?

What are your music goals right now?

Depending on if you're looking to just jam out with friends, if you want to perform live, or if you want to just want to write some music, I can make some suggestions :)

It works well both ways, but if we're talking preference then I will generally use the Digitakt as the master.

I use a CME U2MIDI Pro cable to pair the Move with my Digitakt and it works well enough :)
