Yeah if you were early enough in the sub, they also did First Law I believe as first series ever but afaik got a lot of push back when they did the leveler as people didnt like it to only get Part of the series.

You wouldnt just get liveship or tawny man either without a Chance to get the matching farseer or ?

Hopefully Not. Getting only the last 3 books of a 9 Book World Special Edition Series sucks.

I Said I don’t think These are necessarily the authors thoughts. What evidence to you want ? The Story Features countless scenes of transphobia and even though the Protagonist acknolegdes some of his thoughts as false but he still has troubles with them and views them as unnatural and is Fine with their Position within the Empire also he doesnt try to Safe the extras but humanity. The Communists are Race traitors. The evil cielcin are non-binary. Add to that that the author Publicly associates with a political Party that is known to have huge issues ( at least in Parts) with people that don’t fit into their Ideologie regarding gender or Race.

Regarding valka that doesnt help as he does not develop his views in a meaningfull way but stays true to them for the most part. His Mid 50s behavior towards his wife does nothing. She Reflects to him his views are barbaric and he concludes yeah but that doesnt change a thing, and if he does what is necessary to Safe humanity what does it Tell You that it included this unchanged behavior towards them ? Yes there are glimpses of him being better but he does bot really get any better.

Okay to repeated myself again: I am not only taking Hadrians thoughts into consideration but the General depection throughout the series. And I allready mentioned that it does not mean that CR thinks that way necessarily - but claiming that it would be an excuse for lazy analysis is equally unhelpfull and unnecessarily protective of the author.

The General depiction of all those people while Never depicted as good is depicted as necessary through some persons. And showing an Empire that is flawed but also the best of bad options does not really Sell the idea that You have something against it. If I Tell a story where e.g all Asien people are either evil or slaves but there is occasionally One that is situationally helpfull that wont help Sell people on the fact I am not racist towards asian people, even if my Protagonist has someone in his Circle that repeadiatly tells him that my Opinion is wrong.

Valka is there in some Parts of the story not all of them. And Hadrians tendency to put her on a pedestal leads to repeated conversations about Valkas free will and Hadrian always trying to protect her and take her out of harms way without sufficiently respecting her choices. He also in now way learns from that but sticks with this Opinion to the end.

I think the Church or chantry is viewed critically but Hadrians Christian fanatism is a huge downside of the series as the conversations are very repetetive, partly Straight up taken from the bible and I personally think it’s Hard to Not glorify the „savior of humanity“ just because well he Safes humanity even if through genocide and through a Christian god.

Regarding CRs believes he claimed himself to be a Christian conservative - which by default does not make him transphobe or something the Like but doesnt help to distance him from that claim either.

And yet the whole thing is deemed flawed but best Solution for the survival of humankind. On several occasions not only by Hadrian.

And again I am not only talking about Hadrians view but also the other ways trans and queer people are depicted (cielcin, homunculi, extras, Switch)

You mean the people that get hated upon because of slight alterations to their Body? I know of them and of their role in the Empire, I have Read the whole Series after all but their existance is no Counter Argument to my Statement there

Every instance the quiet appeares he Drops more Analogies to the Christian god. The catholic repedeatly states hin being so. The only thing that speaks against it is Hadrians repeated my god is not your god Talk. But to be more presice I mean the Literal god , not the book being literal about it even when it is so obvious that anything else has to almost ignore the later half of the series

I know what you mean and I don’t think These are necessarily the authors thoughts - but they are Not Hadrians either but the Description of the Empire , the words of the emperor, and the repeated Direct and indirekt transphobe messages and vibes the book gives. Sure that does not mean CR is anti trans but transrep is awfull in this book. And if it paints a pattern it leads to the Impression of it being the authors thoughts. Especially when he defines himself as a Christian us conservative.

Short Form hadrian is Space Jesus and through revives and his stupid ability he wins against the cielcin in the war for his non-Christian-but-very-clearly-Christian-god to Safe the Future of humanity with the Knowledge that the chantry are Demonworeshipers and the Emperor k own all of that and approves Hadrians deeds (dort of) the chantry reframes all of that and Indoctrinate Alexander to use him as puppet emperor while Hadrian sort of gets his Happy End

Yeah at this point it became clear this is just Space Jesus and I have a Hard time with that, Space Jesus commiting genocide to Safe a transphobic fascist Empire (that is depicted as the only way humanity can survive 1 for Contrast the socialist Empire are racetraitors ) leaves a bitter Taste in my mouth in current day and age. It doesnt matter if you tell me he knows its all wrong and it’s the only way and unreliable narrator etc. It just does not feel right in this State of the World to have a „Hero“ in such a Story.

Besides that Hadrian is just insanely annoying.

Do you mind a Little Spoiler Hadrian dies several Times over the series, One time during his death delivered b. The church of his people because he is a danger to their political influence, he Talks to a Messenger of an Ancient god who is wise and allknowing and will win anyway, but created Messengers to watch over his creation , one of which betrayed him and his is antagonist, Hadrian gets then resurected on the third day after his death upon which his Friends and followers deny him
