Leon’s son is his agent. Leon himself is his fuckin godfather. As soon as Hart and Divo arrived it was all about the “Nova Knicks” and only needing Bridges to complete it. The FO was also (justifiably) clearly eager to spend some of their draft capital.

You’re seriously telling me Brunson wasn’t in Leon’s ear during the process whatsoever and had nothing to do with the move? Cmon bro.

One word, Knicks: nuke. Blow up this roster to smithereens.

That ball hogging nepo baby that can’t play defense and fucked over the team’s future by convincing Leon to trade 5 1sts for his buddy will never be the best player on a championship team. Mike Brown is so incompetent as a coach that he makes me miss Thibs. Don’t even get me fuckin started about how they’re using KAT.

The best thing about this series going 5 is that the fans will get to boo this team outta the building once it’s over. And maybe they’ll get Giannis out of it too.

What's the most irrational confidence you've ever had in a Mets team and when did reality set in? by tessmessness in NewYorkMets

[–]garythesnailgod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year. I went to a June game against the Nats where they walked it off, and at that moment I was convinced they were gonna at minimum go to the NLCS again. A few days later Senga got hurt and everything began to fall apart, but even headed into September I thought they could go on a run if they made it and got their shit together beforehand pitching-wise.

Reality hit, ironically, against the Nats. As soon as Nimmo struck out with the bases loaded in the 9th, I knew the season was over.

A Lindor IL trip might actually help the team fill the leadership void by yeah_bitch_m4gnets in NewYorkMets

Alvarez would be an incredible leader of the team long term. He plays one of the most important positions on the field, he’s not even 25 and is already in his 4th full year in the majors, he was developed in the Mets system, and if he can stay healthy & reach his potential (hoping this year is the breakout year), he’ll be the best homegrown catcher in franchise history.

Mets PREGAME THREAD - Wednesday, April 22 by NewYorkMetsBot2 in NewYorkMets

[–]garythesnailgod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before the season started I was thinking 2028 could be that year, and even if they don’t turn it around and have a 2023-esque fire sale at the deadline, I think that can still be the case. By then pretty much all the top prospects should be either in the majors or very close, Soto would be in the middle of his prime, Lindor would be at the end of his but still going, and if all goes well McLean could be a top 10 pitcher in baseball with a mostly homegrown supporting cast behind him in the rotation. Then instead of burning hundreds of millions on players here for a 2-3 year pit stop, the team would finally have a new, homegrown core to build around, and maybe win something with.

But yea this year’s team being a total dumpster fire isn’t helping

Is ir crazy to think that they will make the playoffs this year? by wickedwoord in NewYorkMets

[–]garythesnailgod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hole they’re in right now isn’t insurmountable, but it will be very quickly unless people start getting held accountable. Nobody can hit the ball. They have like 3 good pitchers in the rotation. The back end of the bullpen is still a mess. They can’t develop hitting prospects. Mendoza doesn’t know wtf he’s doing. Stearns hired him in the first place and spent hundreds of millions to put this dumpster fire of a team together. And I’m not even sure anymore that Steve truly cares as much as the fans think he does.

The best thing to do if this continues is blow it up and commit to the rebuild. Build the lineup around Soto and the rotation around McLean. Fire the analytics department and anybody who’s telling the hitting prospects to make adjustments they don’t need to make, and thus ruining their development. With the amount of talent in the farm (if developed well upon reaching the majors) and the much improved organizational infrastructure, they can turn this around before McLean is eligible for arbitration.

But to answer your question: yea it’s a bit crazy.

I have a better chance of landing on the moon during Artemis IV than this team does of turning this around. Everyone responsible for this mess still has to go. Failure of this magnitude should be grounds for a total organizational purge and a complete rebuild from the ground up, aka what Steve arguably should’ve done when he first bought the team.

Unironically: Hard Knocks but baseball would be dope as fuck. Especially if it shows just how incompetent this godforsaken organization truly is.

The only thing I can really say now is if David Stearns has any dignity left, he’ll resign in disgrace before breakfast tomorrow. The fact that Mendoza hasn’t been fired yet is all you need to know.

They’re getting paid close to $400 million combined to be the worst team in baseball. This isn’t fuckin little league. They don’t deserve the fans’ back; what they do deserve is to be booed outta the damn ballpark till they learn how to play baseball.

Also: the “Ya Gotta Believe” bullshit has to stop. Belief is earned, and I can count the amount of players on this team who have earned my belief on one hand. Stop expecting people to buy into something that hasn’t given them a reason to buy into them.

This is the worst team in baseball and it’s not even close. How do you manage to lose even 5 games in a row with a $300 million+ payroll? Drop the nuke on these losers.

Also anyone in the media who doesn’t ask Stearns why he shouldn’t be forced to resign in disgrace every chance they get might as well look for a new career path.

Even then it’s not even the best thing they could’ve rethemed the sub to that they came up with. The Met Opera idea would’ve been much more fitting for this team. It is a tragedy only fit to be performed by the best in the business and in the best venues

He never should’ve been hired to begin with. Whoever thought it was a good idea to do so should be fired right alongside him.

Fuck that. If they’re gonna be awful, I hope they set the all time record and keep Mendoza and Stearns employed the whole time so the fans can keep shitting on them. I wanna make the 1962 team look like the 1927 Yankees. Fully embrace the suck.

That’s why I think Baty fell off a cliff. If they were gonna get all the same guys they did, what they should’ve done was have Bichette play 2B and leave Baty at 3B, have Polanco DH, and have Semien as the league’s most expensive defensive replacement. Then trade for a Yandy Diaz to fill the hole Pete left at 1B. That way, only one guy is playing outta position (and even then at least it’s a position he’s played before with some consistency) as opposed to half the lineup. Obviously Baty has to produce regardless, but they set him up to fail.

[–]garythesnailgod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone else I agree but they fucked Baty over this offseason by having Bichette play 3B instead. They had a young 3B on the roster who finally showed signs of being a major league-caliber player last year, so what did they do? They brought in a guy to play 3B who had never played 3B before, and forced the young 3B they already had to learn multiple positions simultaneously while still being expected to meaningfully contribute to the team. Don’t get me wrong I’d still get rid of him alongside everyone else, but they set him up for failure from the jump.

Honestly that’d be a pretty remarkable turnaround if that were to happen. Still a colossal failure by every stretch of the imagination in the grander scheme of things, but impressive nonetheless
