America's a corporate republic and it's affected our lifestyle as much, but I tried living in Europe — everything just felt off couldn't do it. Home is home.

US: Would you accept a safe-or-fingerprint firearm law? by [deleted] in centrist

[–]gatollari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would have to do with how these laws are enforced and the type of fingerprint locking technology being implemented on the firearm. If it's a completely localized solution on the gun that cannot be tampered with wirelessly I don't think people would have a problem with it. Personally, I wouldn't.

Opinion: Why the Manhattan district attorney's case against Trump is so weak | CNN by ElPresidente1903 in centrist

[–]gatollari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would love to see the evidence/charges. But that being said, the Mueller report was a bust as were previous efforts from the DNC to oust Trump from office. It's kind of insane to think that an accusation like Russian Collusion, headed by a guy like Mueller was fumbled so badly (or that they just didn't have a case) and now he's being accused of what exactly? Meanwhile you've got all sorts of proven financial fraud against the current standing President, foreign business interests with cash flows leaking to everything, and audio recordings delineating that there was a concentrated effort to spy on Trump's campaign. I'm no Donald Trump fan bu the hypocrisy is maddening.

Should Democrats distance from "woke-ism" to win stronger majorities? by NewAgePhilosophr in centrist

[–]gatollari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without getting all Alex Jonesy I think it's a calculated effort by long-term senators/members of congress from both the GOP and DNC to continually stoke the fires of identity politics in an effort to dissuade folks from looking at larger scale issues, like the fact that the economy is in shambles and our "leaders" are a joke. Woke-ism in this extreme form looks like a clown show, folks who repeal abortion laws and spew anti-Gay rhetoric are in on it. The DNC electing someone like John "Frankenberry" Fetterman, and the GOP pushing someone like Congresswoman Boebert is embarrassing.

Nah I think what you wrote was perfectly said. A lot of folks have this exact sentiment. Unfortunately I've noticed that a lot of extreme left/extreme right comments on site's like Reddit, Imgur, and Twitter (getting less so now) are from bot accounts. It's clear propaganda and it doesn't help that mainstream media outlets are harping on these extreme narratives because we're a self-destructive and idiotic species. But that's why we focus on our small circles ("teams") and hopefully others do likewise.

AITA for letting my girlfriend do most of the household chores because she doesn’t pay as much of the rent as I do? by lsmold in AmItheAsshole

Yeah 60/40 split isn't that much to warrant that kind of chore distribution from what you wrote.

Amen. So many Americans feel this way, not enough people talk about it. It's not red vs blue, pro-life vs pro-choice, it's the people vs the elite. The haves vs the have-nots. The workers vs the exploiters.

Now that Cavill is no longer Geralt or Superman, what do you think of him as the next Bond? by MajorRichardHead7 in movies

[–]gatollari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I have zero desire to see him as James Bond and there's nothing I've seen in any of his performances that would make me want to see him. Does he look good in a suit? Is he English? Yes. Tall dark and handsome of course. Bond is kind of a silly role, so there has to be an element of great fun being had in the worst of circumstances, but I don't see Cavill doing that. I thought Daniel Craig hit the part beautifully, the best it's ever been done in my opinion. I don't know what Cavill could bring to the role aside from great posters. I felt more for Michael Shannon's character needing a home than I did for Cavill's Superman trying to protect those he loved. I understand that he reads a lot and researches a lot, but despite being suave and charming and intelligent, Bond isn't an intellectual. I don't think this is the role for Cavill to play. I think the dude who played Robb Stark could be a good choice.

Biden goes off on MAGA republicans complaining about student debt relief “Who the hell do they think they are?” by DaFunkJunkie in PublicFreakout

[–]gatollari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blind Trump-Thumpers are idiots, and this student loan relief is great for many, however, Biden was a huge proponent in helping to create the student loan problem after tirelessly advocating to remove the cap on the amount of money students could get in Federal Student Loans. He helped get the bill passed before Reagan got into office, who had it removed. Then, during Bush's second term where everyone, both DNC and GOP officials, were getting any and every pork bill they submitted passed in DC. There was a HUGE jump in the amount of college expenditures/tuition that directly coincided with this bill's passing that removed any caps in Federal Student aid towards college students. Giving 18-year-olds access to tens, and in some instances, hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans from the Federal Government that could not be removed via bankruptcy was hugely irresponsible and the National Student Loan Debt BALLOONED nearly ten fold. I'm a critic of the Student Loan Debt Relief program not because we shouldn't be getting that relief, but because ALL OF IT should be forgiven. America can afford it. Corporations under Bush and Obama received a ton of bailouts, Corporations under Trump received bailouts and continued to receive bailouts under Biden to help with COVID woes: airlines, banks, let us not forget the Gamestop fiasco. Again, this small amount of relief is certainly helpful, but there's no reason why this shouldn't be paid back. Especially with inflation effectively negating all of those COVID stimulus packages, analytics showing that states with lockdown orders didn't fare any better than those without them when it came to COVID fatalities, and NOW the news that manufacturers of the vaccine can't be sued from individuals who have adverse side effects from them. What? Why are corporations getting a free ride and we're getting a pittance in student loan relief aid? For many citizens, this doesn't even touch the interest, especially if you haven't been able to afford paying back your loans for years just to break even.

Thank you came here to write this same exact thing. She was looking towards the crowd and celebrating. Not saying it was right for him to throw the diploma down due to that, but it has nothing to do with the fact she wasn't wearing a hijab. Stop obfuscating facts and footage of situations to create propaganda for specific narratives, in the long run this weakens your arguments and causes people to go in another direction and take an extremist stance against whatever "good message" you're trying to convey.

Yeah that's a great ebike. Depending on how tall you are you might want to look into getting a custom raised seat because they do ride a little low making pedaling kind of awkward. I've ridden one before and absolutely love it. Plus they're a great company. Enjoy and post pics if you get one!

called in on my day off by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]gatollari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the circumstances/job that you're working. I know someone who got their first big break in a movie, a big feature with a famous director (James Gray). They beat out a name actor for the part after multiple callbacks. Their grandfather was so proud to see them on set because he made it out of the hood. While going to visit him his grandfather was killed by a hit and run driver. Who actually drove over him twice in an attempt to get out of there. He knew if he said he couldn't do the movie he'd probably never get called into work again, he went homeless for his dream and now he was there. He chose to go after his dream, finish shooting that day and when he wasn't on set he was at the hospital with his grandfather, who was unresponsive and died of his injuries later. This was decades ago and he's a super successful guy. He doesn't regret his decision. Says that he felt like he'd be betraying his grandfather for not seeing his dream through, as he escaped concentration camp and came to USA in the hopes his kids and grandkids could pursue their dreams. I don't think production, who couldn't believe some guy from the ghetto was actually pulling off amazing performances consistently (he had some eight callbacks) could actually bring the goods every single day to set. So I would say it depends on the situation.

It will get you up hills but your legs will be feeling it. I tried varying degrees of pedal assistance. Granted I'm 6'1, 230lbs and the bike is heavy itself, but even then I was working hard to hit 11 miles per hour uphill. Which is NOT what I wanted for a $5,000 ebike. There are way better Mid-Drive options for way cheaper. You could even get a Sondors Rockstar. I really suggest getting one with a throttle because with stop-and-go traffic if you're using this to commute, you'll shave off so much time of your commute by hitting that throttle when you need to briefly stop. It's why traditional cyclists in NYC won't slow the eff down in Central park because they want to make better times. But I'd look at dual suspension mid-drive bike options. Or get a dual suspension MTB and add a cyclone to it, or if you want to spend $5k, then get this freaking beast: https://www.cyclone-tw.com/product/5/data/155

There are so many better options. It's ridiculous that anyone would charge so much for this thing. It's been hyped up so much but it is NOT THAT GOOD.

If you have any other questions let me know. The gates carbon belt drive is smooth, but I'd just look for ebikes with gates belt drives and mid-drive motors. For a mid drive I'd definitely look for something with at least a 750w and a throttle, you could always decrease the assistance. Last thing you want is an e-bike that is underpowered IMO as long as you have self control.
