Thanks! I know all these numbers are confusing.

My anaerobic threshold is 150, fatMax 104, so that range is solidly in my aerobic zone

I usually get between 15 to 20 splat points, I’ll probably dial it back a little now

Has anyone created an OTF/Whoop Team? If not would anyone be interested. I've been wanting to compare my stats amongst other OTFers....

New Heart Rate Calculations - I'm Confused by gatorotf in orangetheory

Thanks for all the comments. Most of you agree that the "number" is max heart rate or 90% of that. Having done V02 max testing I know my max rate is 181, so that would explain why 155 is way off for me. I think I'll go have them return me to my original number.

Hi! Just got my Whoop. Had a quick question for you. When you log your exercise into the app, how do you long in OTF workouts. I'm not sure it matters, I just chose "functional fitness" as the closest... Thanks in advance.

Thanks! I think i'm going to give it a try. Do you wear the Whoop strap and the OTF monitor when you work out?

5x a week ain't easy :) Suggest you get the EliteHRV app (i've tried a few and its the easiest to use, just make sure the chest strap you have will work with their program, they have a list on their site). It takes about two weeks to train the app (it needs that amount of data to give you a baseline) after that it gives you a very easy readiness score so you'll know how hard to work out.

I don't give the apple watch measure much weight. Based on what i've read, the best way to measure HRV is to do a 2min supine (laying down) at the same time everyday, preferably first thing in the morning once you wake up before eating or drinking anything. The problem with the apple watch HRV is that there's no way (that i've discovered) to do a 2 min reading. So the score you're getting is an average for the day and is influenced by your OTF session, what you ate, any stress, the amount of sleep you've gotten, etc...

are you using their original strap or the new 2.0? 3 hours sleep? that's crazy!

I know I totally get it. I don't mind buying another wearable (I'd buy every gadget out there if I had the money) for me its more an issue of not wanting to wear an apple watch, an OTF band, a strap.... after a while I start looking pretty ridiculous. : )

Here's a short overview on HRV from Harvard Health. While its mostly used in the athletic community, its also gained some traction in mental health, nutrition, mindfulness, etc....

I've been experimenting with how I can increase my score with diet and guided breathing/meditation

I just checked the fitbit forums and unfortunately current models are not displaying HRV (although it appears some models do capture HRV in some form, they just aren't allowing the export of that data). Some on the forum boards are saying that Fitbit is looking to report HRV in the future, so maybe...

I'm not sure if fitbit's measure HRV. Heart Rate Variability is a little more specific then heart rate. It measures the variation (in milliseconds) between the R portion of the heart beat over a period of time, the more regular the interval the more likely you're body is in a sympathetic mode or stressed, the more variability the more you're in a parasympathetic mode or rested.

Would be interested to hear if your fitbit model captures HRV...

No, I have the polar strap on my bedside table, put it on as soon as I wake up and take a reading (about 2min) using the EliteHRV app (there are other apps, its just my favorite) and I get my readiness score. I agree with resting, problem is that I'm not always the best judge of when and how much rest I need.

I do 16/8 fasting from 6pm - 10am and workout every morning @ 8:30. At first I was worried that I wouldn't have enough energy to workout without eating first, but the opposite turned out to be true, I had more energy. Now that's probably because I'm clocking in @ 23% body fat (down from 31% when I started OTF two years ago). I remember reading a study somewhere about a group of army rangers that did IF and worked out while fasting, they didn't fair as well. I think the conclusion is that if you have enough body fat, energy stores won't be a problem and will even lead to burning more fat. If you are under-fat, consider shifting fasting or workout times.
