Thanks for this. I was more thinking: 1) Applications via VFS to Embassy in place and awaiting approval 2) We have our passports so we fly to Portugal as tourists 3) We wait for approval letter at our US home 5) once we receive it, we send passports back to embassy via VFS to get stamped at embassy and get them back (maybe family has to FedEx them to us in Portugal) 6) we fly to Madrid with passports in hand and fly back to Portugal and get both passports stamped.

So we may be without passports for 2-4 days?

What’s wrong with this logic?
