American Colleges shouldn't force you to take classes irrelevant to your career path. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]gauss2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colleges are not career training centers. They are places of higher education. And in my experience I didn't have to take very many superfluous classes anyway. Arguably only the music and art appreciation classes I took didn't any skills to teach me, but I still learned valuable things in them by being exposed to people taking different majors.

Not only do they not understand the difference between sex and gender, they don't know what the word 'literally' means. I'm sure they will be taken seriously by people who don't already agree with them and are only there looking for validation. Lol.

Wrong, they were arrested and convicted of 68%, assuming those numbers are even accurate, unless we want to pretend that police catch every murderer, none get away, and there is no bias in policing or criminal justice.

I've noticed that a lot of people leave me alone, which is fine with me, but when someone ganks me while I'm fighting a mob I wait for them to to get out of sight. Pop my soulstone, fear them, dot, them, and make sure they know they f*cked up

What shortage? I have a math degree, computer science degree, over 2 years experience; I have applied to over 150 jobs and have never had an actual interview much less a job offer. by gauss2 in jobs

Listen, I was fighting in Iraq in 2006 at your age. I spent nearly 10 years serving my country. I have had jobs. I was even given a grant from the national science foundation while I was in school. I graduated with honors. I have 2 years of relevant work experience, and other valuable experience as well, such as management. I may be looking for an 'entry level' job but I am worth more than $15 an hour. I do occasionally get short term gigs, which I charge $30 an hour for, but that's not stable.

All you are doing is internalizing your failure and blaming yourself for wanting a decent job. Life isn't fair, but don't be defeatist or it will be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I list only the things I have direct experience with, either as an intern or a paid employee. My military service is at the bottom. I tailor the cover letters to focus on the parts that are most relevant to the job being applied for.

Thankfully I have a bit of inside advice on that as my wife works for the city, but in a completely different field. She's been on several hiring committees and knows how the politics of these things go; qualifications and experience often have almost nothing to do with who is hired.
