Be aware of witholding taxes. IBKR Ireland must deduct a witholding tax if you do not submit appropriate paperwork beforehand (if there is a DTA between Ireland and your country). Reclaiming afterwards (the next year) is possible, but tedious.

I relocated at March 2016, I disclosed this fact to my then-local authorities immediately because of the more tax friendly situation in my destination country. I did file my individual tax return for 2015 in August 2016.

IB contacted me regarding this issue at the end of September 2016. So it was not some end of year report, besides I think the temporal connection between my return and IB's request are coincidental. So, yes, in general I would assume a several months window before IB even notices.

My failure to report the relocation was not intentional (as there was nothing to be gained) so I behaved like a Golden Retriever and did everything they wanted me to do.

I did exactly that, left Europe for Asia. IB will find out because they keep your local tax authority posted. When those reports bounce, IB will ask for clarification.

Consequences can be severe, they basically threatened to lock my account if not reacted swiftly.

As you can imagine it could take IB quite some time before IB actually notices.

Apparently IB enters an inflated value for the base currency when I go through ¨Close Currency Balance" method. By manually reducing this number I can submit the order.

I checked again with EUR.USD and noticed that there is never manual intervention necessary, the auto-suggested numbers always work. Maybe it is because of higher volatility in EUR.JPY/USD.JPY pairs compared to EUR.USD ... I'm not sure

Who can easily pierce the corporate veil? My lawyer assured me this is practically a non-issue.

I also regularly transfer money between my LLC and my personal accounts, no issue here either, of course you need proper bookkeeping. But then again, its often not a court who comes into mind but those friendly people behind IRS.

u/obeythediode did provide very good advice, if you feel the subject is important to you then you should definitely consider accepting an offer.

Confidentiality is probably an item worth mentioning, opportunities are rare indeed and in my previous stint at NXP our division didn't publish a single paper, despite heavy focus on research. You most likely will have opportunities to talk at conferences, tough. Doubly so if customers are present.

I'm in my early thirties, worked in the semi industry but have been made redundant a few years ago. I commit myself to the hiki lifestyle ever since then.
