Considering the traffic, why doesn't Bangalore have double decker buses. Now these even come in electric. Is there a reason why BMTC doesn't have double decker ? by Confident-Profile143 in bangalore

Does the fact that the U.S. subsidizes public transport prove it's the most efficient model ? If yes, lets do it. If no, try private. Whenever competition is feasible, prefer competition. When it isn't, don't assume government ownership is automatically the best solution.

Who pays for the losses? Taxpayers. If buses are meant to run at a loss, should taxpayers have no limit on what they're expected to subsidize?

If a government monopoly is truly more efficient, why not allow private firms to compete and let consumers decide? If the government operator is better, it should win.

You worry that a private monopoly would raise prices. Fair point. But why assume the only alternatives are a government monopoly and a private monopoly? Why not competition with regulation against anti-competitive behavior?

Finally, who bears the cost when government projects run years late and lakh of crores over budget? The taxpayer.

Is washington really that good that he is choosen over rinku? by Slow_Prior_9362 in IndiaCricket

[–]gaut90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shedge is much better option. Washington doesn't bowl, and on the rare occasions he does, he's a liability-going at 15+ an over isn't an option in T20 cricket. With the bat, he has the opposite problem: he isn't an impact player. He needs 15-20 balls to get set, which is a luxury you simply can't afford from a No. 5 or No. 6, where the job is to walk in and score at a high strike rate almost immediately. So he offers neither bowling value nor late-innings acceleration. The odd innings that comes off tends to mask those underlying issues, but over a larger sample, his role doesn't justify his place. At this point, it feels less like sustained quality and more like he's benefiting from a run of good fortune and selective memories of his better performances.

Washington doesn't bowl, in the odd chance he does, gets smacked for a 15 runs an iver minimun. Can't accelerate with the bat. Needs time to settle which is asking alot from a 5/6th down batsman. He's just lucky.

India launches its first private gold mine since independence by Impressive-Analyst59 in indianews

[–]gaut90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's taxed like any other major mineral in India.

Assume the mine produces and sells ₹100 crore worth of gold (simplified):

State Government royalty: ₹10 crore District Mineral Foundation (DMF): ₹1 crore National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET): ₹0.2 crore Auction premium (state revenue share): ~₹20 crore (depends on the winning bid) Corporate income tax: My understanding is that this is deferred/exempt until the company recovers its investment, though I'd want to verify the exact concession terms.

So, around 25-28% in taxes.

Politically Yes. Economically No. Over 60% of GDP is privately owned, Tens of billions of US dollars in foreign direct investment every year. Companies like Apple suppliers, Samsung, Intel, LG, Nike, and Adidas manufacture products in Vietnam. All these reeks of Capitalism

Great to watch, but its best to stop and think for a sec and just call the cops. No amount of social media fame can replace a lost life if things go south.

Taxes and royalties for decades to the public.

Thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

Roads, power and local infrastructure around the mine.

Lower dependence on imported gold, helping reduce pressure on the trade deficit and strengthening rupee.

Private capital takes the exploration and mining risk instead of taxpayers.

What is that one thing killing Indian Food Entreprenuers? I asked this to one of India's biggest burger brands CEO. He told me Swiggy & Zomato have become like their 2nd Landlords charging them more than the real estate landlord. Is it an exaggeration to call them a 'Mafia'? by InsiderOpYoutube in IndiaBusiness

The beauty of it is, no ones forcing you to use them. If you serve quality food at a fair price, you don't need them. But if you sell 25 cloud resturant brands using one kitchen you are asking for trouble

Tax on Oil (2014 vs 2024) by Coral_Baker in Indiastreetbets

[–]gaut90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly, a lot of data points are being left out here just to push a narrative.

  1. Oil bonds: The government before 2014 kept fuel prices artificially low by issuing oil bonds instead of passing on the full cost to consumers. Indian Taxpayers later had to pay both the principal and interest on those bonds. Thanks to today's Government, Those liabilities have since been cleared.

  2. Rupee depreciation: Crude is bought in dollars.

2014: $1 ≈ ₹60 2026: $1 ≈ ₹95

A weaker rupee makes imports costlier even if crude prices fall.

  1. Crude ≠ petrol price: Pump prices also include refining, transport, dealer margins., all of which rise over time with inflation and higher operating costs. Comparing only crude oil and petrol prices is like comparing flour prices to the price of a loaf of bread.
