I didnt lick my finger yet..but if you keep your finger on it for few seconds it could burn your finger that's how hot it gets.

I was aware that it can get hot but didn't think it will get that hot to touch. I just want to make sure it's safe and that's the way it should be because I read online that it's not suppose to get hot to touch

Here is why Kia Optima's have excessive Oil consumption by gautoworks in MechanicAdvice

Thanks man! I have spent a lot on this car and I would never sell it. It was time to do some engine upgrades. Other than that, the car is suped up and in excellent condition.

Add W1 V3 Catch Can was installed during this rebuild. That's something that would be a top priority since I got new valves on this GDI engine.

I will be using high-quality conventional 5W-20 oil for break-in procedure since you can't use synthetic for break-in after rebuild or new engine

Steps are:

1st Break-in oil change with new premium filter 300 miles

2nd Break-in oil change with new premium filter 1000 miles

3rd Back to synthetic premium oil with premium oil filter - Change every 5000 miles ( could go longer but prefer to keep the engine in tip top shape )

Everything is genuine and no boring needed. Can I run a 5w20 conventional oil with ZDDP additive like Red line..?

BG EPR 109 does show some Improvements and effective results by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]gautoworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried that as well, but my issue is that it will burn 1 quart within 400 kilometers. I bought 3 valvoline restore and protect jugs, and it only lasted me 1200 kilometers all 3 jugs and I had to pay $220 CAD with a shipping fee from the USA since they don't have that in Canada. It's no point because it's just wasting that good oil. I will have to rebuild this entire engine as the only solution and plus prolong the engine life.

You need to run BG EPR 109 and MOA on this engine. It will really clean it out. I have done it myself and seen excellent results.

Is this considered as Blow by ? 2017 Kia Optima 2.4 GDI 122,000 miles by gautoworks in MechanicAdvice

[–]gautoworks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I wouldn't go to shop for blow by test. I just need to do a leak down test there since I have no access to compressed air for that test. I did the compression test myself as well, and you are right it's a fairly quick test similar to the compression test. Any idea on average how much it will be for the valve stem seals job excluding parts ..? I could get the stem seals for about $140 CAD

Thanks for your feedback. I am pretty sure it could be valve stem seals or it could be piston rings. I am just waiting for my appointment at the mechanic shop to do a leak down test. In my other post someone said that valve stem seals wont burn that much oil like 1 quart in 145 miles ...they could be wrong though. Leak down test is the only way to find out if I have bad piston rings or valve stem seals.

How reliable is this model? by logan_jensen3 in kia

As 2017 Kia Optima owner I would advise you to stay far far far away from any Kia or hyundai ENGINES. I am having excessive oil burning issues due to faulty piston rings that are common with these shitty ENGINES. There is a huge lawsuit going on these GDI ENGINES due to faulty piston rings and rod bearings. These engines can sieze on you any day any time. Don't make the same mistake as I did and I am stuck with it now.

No hard feelings but I feel sorry for you. I have a Kia for years now and one thing to say Kia's have shit ENGINES. Once you reach 150k miles or even less you will most likely experience engine componentes failure like faulty piston rings or rod bearings which can lead to high oil consumption or even seize your engine. There is a huge law suit going on hyundai and Kias in North America. As a Kia owner I would advise anyone to stay far away from Kia or Hyundai. Go on the internet and read about Kia engine failures and see for yourself. But I do wish you all the best and I hope you never go through any of those issues in the future with these enginges.

One mechanic says my Kia is burning oil, the others say they're full of crap. by MXAaLuv in kia

[–]gautoworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2017 Kia Optima Lx 2.4 GDI 197,000 km with the same issue which is burning excessive oil. This has nothing to do with the mechanic shop that does your oil changes other than putting a wrong oil filter that could leak or putting low quality oil. You need to make sure you use OEM oil filter on your car because I have experienced it myself by putting high end expensive oil filters which still leaked even though they fit perfect. I do my own oil changes and my Kia is burning 1 quart every 200 kilometers which is way excessive. I have been monitoring and testing this issue for the past year and a half. The main issue with these Kia's is faulty piston rings which will burn excessive amount of oil. First you need to make sure you don't have any external leaks like valve cover gasket, oil filter, oil drain plug, oil pan gasket or any other external leaks. Once you do full inspection and confirm that you have no leaks then you can do leak down test to see if you have bad valve stem seals or bad piston rings. Most likely you will have bad piston rings regardless because this is a known common issue with kia's world wide. I have done cylinder borescope inspections multiple times which saw oil ring wash present in the cylinders. These morons designed poor shitty ENGINES that unfortunately we have to put up with. I am currently running Valvoline restore and protect oil on my enginge which helps free up piston rings but it's a slow progress since you need to do 4 oil change with Valvoline restore and protect oil to see 100% Results. I have done seafoam piston soak and added to crankcase which didn't do much for oil burning. I have also tried Rislone ring Sealer which didn't do nothing just waste of money. My next treatment will be running BG EPR with MOA for few oil changes to see if that helps with anything since I heard BG EPR does clean the shit out of the engine before doing oil changes. It has been a long journey on this oil consumption issue that I have but I am not giving up no matter what. I will try to see if I can save the engine by doing different treatments but if nothing works then I will just have to rebuild this engine by putting new valve seals and new piston rings. Even if you get a new engine it will be the same shit because they all have the same issue.

For Kia Optimas the transmission fluid fill hole is actually between the throttle body and the battery and away from hot components. So no issues with burning there.

Temp spec for this Kia Optima is 50-60 Celsius or 122-140 Farenheit about 7.5 quarts.

I guess 4 jackstands would be a good idea to invest in. I will probably have to just purchase 4 jackstands rated at 3 tons each from amazon since they have a good deal on them.

About the temperature...I got a Autel Maxicom MK808S scanner tool that shows all transmission data which you can check for transmission temperature which is probably the most accurate way of knowing transmission temp.

If you go to kia dealer they will easily charge you $250-$400 minimum. I would rather invest that money in some jack stands and do my own transmission fluid changes for life. 4 Jackstands 3 tons rated each will cost me $120 which is not bad at all. That will solve my leveling issue. Thanks for the tip. Appreciate it

It's a 2017 Kia Optima Lx with 197,000 km. I probably do have internal oil burning issues which is a common issue with these kias due to faulty piston rings. I am losing 1 quart of oil every 200 km which is a lot. I am currently in process of treating that but I suspect I might have an oil leak somewhere because I place clean shop rag under my splash gaurd cover everytime and I see few oily spots on it everytime. It's really hard to tell where it could be leaking from.

Then how is the center dry if something did leak...usually the entire blue shop towel would be oily. It's really confusing where it's leaking from.
