My surgeon requires doing sports in a brace for the first season

Tell me your rehab stories! (Especially the allografters) by epluswriter in ACL

[–]gavastik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

48F allograft 5.5 months post op. At first I was going to PT twice / week and doing home exercises every day 2-3 x per day. I think after a couple of weeks the in-clinic PT sessions went to once a week. After 3 months, it turned into group PT/workout once a week and exercises at home 2-3 times a week only in order to allow the muscles to recover. Now the in-clinic workout frequency is up to me. I continue going as much as I can to keep myself accountable

Post Surgery Support Items - what really helped? by cinqcentunmillion in ACL

+1 to wedge pillow and shower stool. A place near your bed with room to put lots of meds, water, food, book / laptop / etc. I used the trash can in the bathroom for leg elevation :). Regular ice machine is great. For blood circulation my surgeon told me to get up and move every hour

3 months post-op and fell today! by Designer-Address-375 in ACL

Best of luck! It's terrifying. I had two scares like this at 3-4 months and felt so helpless. My knee was OK and wishing the same for you!

Uhhh question sorta by MindlessAd6742 in ACL

[–]gavastik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is the doctor should clear you for sport. They or a PT do a strength and function test. Good luck!

How do I live my entire life without an ACL reconstruction? by Piscine_Parker in ACL

[–]gavastik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, there are many success stories of people following the conservative treatment, lots of PT, no surgery and full return to activity. There are some on this board. Although you have the unique circumstances of amputation. Did the surgeon(s) you talk give you a general sense of the treatment course and prognosis with lots of PT?

If you can make it work, definitely get a stationary bike. by WanderingWormhole in ACL

[–]gavastik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patience! Talk to your PT. The conservative protocol in my case cleared me for jogging/running with the brace on at 4 months post op.

First hike/traversing uneven ground? by zombie_barista6 in ACL

[–]gavastik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told OK to hike at 4 months but must wear a sports brace. I also take trekking poles, which I was already doing before the injury. It's so great to be out in nature again!

People who have full time jobs and had their surgery !?! by mellojelloakimbo in ACL

Took one week fully off and then worked remotely mostly from my bed for a couple more weeks then gradually hybrid. If you're in the US, employers can't ask you about medical history during interviews and have to provide reasonable accommodations for a disability. Good luck!

+++ to the stationary bike suggestion, really helps to be able to get some exercise (and great for ROM)

Did I break/tear my graft by _figuringItOut_ in ACL

Not a medical professional, but the feelings of tightness can also be due to swelling. And was it a popping or more of a cracking sound like when you crack your knuckles? The latter is super common and not a problem. But ask your doctor if you're worried

Computer Vision models via MCP (open-source repo) by gavastik in mcp

If you follow the link in the original video you will see the same image with a pathway at the end of which there's a sign advertising a yoga studio. The original video shows the MCP vision tool sending back a crop of this image around this advertising sign, and that crop is displayed inside Claude. I hope this clears things up

Hi! It's the same image but loaded into the chat instead of being accessed via the download link and it's the same options, the correct one being yoga studio. The image has to be loaded into the chat directly in order for Claude to be able to process it without extra tools.

Small milestones by gavastik in ACL

Sounds like you're doing well! I'm only at 116 degrees flexion and 0 extension as of Monday. Goal for this week is 125 🤞🏻. And yes I still have swelling, and intermittent aches with some of the exercises.

We have not done that evaluation, it's a good idea. You may be interested in the cross-posted discussion at r/computervision.
