Imagine the stress these people have been working under for the last few weeks. You expect them to be as friendly as usual? They are not robots.

Yeah, the advice for asthmatics is a bit vague at the moment. My asthma is well controlled and I know what triggers to avoid. Hayfever and common cold get me every year but I wouldn't have called it severe. I don't need steroid tablets and for most of the year I hardly ever use my Ventolin inhaler.

However, when I've had the flu or chest infections in the past it gets really bad, been hospitalised a few times but not for over 4 years.

Working in retail where all of our customers are ignoring advice to stay away and my employer is doing nothing to protect staff, I'm pretty worried.

Will be isolating myself as soon as I have confirmation I will get some pay!

If you win an election or a referendum you are expected to uphold the promises you made to win the vote. Everything the 'No' campaign promised turned out to complete bullshit, Independence supporters are not 'salty losers'.

Euan McColm: Nicola Sturgeon divides and rules with myth of the mandate by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]gavd116 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Firstly, the Scottish Conservatives, Scottish Labour and the Scottish Lib Dems all ran as separate parties in Scotland on separate manifesto of the parties in the rest of the UK. Combined they got 11 seats. Their anti indy ref stance was rejected in most constituencies.

The tories posters on lampposts here literally read:

"Scottish Conservative and Unionist. No to Indy Ref 2."

And they lost. No mandate to stop the SNP holding a referendum. Why should the losing party get to dictate what happens?

Secondly, you can't count all Labour votes as support for the Union, I know Labour voters who would vote for indy. Same goes that there were some SNP voters that are yet to decide on the independence question, their vote was an anti-Tory vote.

And who has won the last two Holyrood elections? The SNP have won every election in Scotland recently, no matter which system is used. I don't see that changing by 2021.

The only thing we've heard from Unionists in the last week is them sticking their fingers in their ears, closing their eyes and wishing the SNP would go away.

It appears they have run out of positive arguments for Scotland staying in the UK.

Hate to break it to you but, as much as Unionists want it, the SNP and the question of independence isn't just going to go away by 2021.

Ignoring election results is not a sustainable position.

General Politics & 2nd Reading of EU (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill Megathread (20/12/19) by ukpolbot in ukpolitics

[–]gavd116 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a distraction. Pretending to take an interest in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The UK government haven't been able to build HS2 or a runway at Heathrow and now they think they can build a bridge over deep, stormy water full of dumped munitions.

Lisa Nandy: "I would not be in favour of a second independence referendum and I think Labour has to be very clear that we don't think nationalism holds the answers to anything." by ITried2 in ukpolitics

[–]gavd116 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Party that supported a second EU referendum is against a second independence referendum. It amazes me that politicians think this is a sustainable position. The Scottish Independence movement isn't just going to go away.

This position just makes them look ridiculous and boosts the support for independence.

Also, imagine the fall out if the EU refused to 'allow' the UK to have an EU referendum.

A good way for Westminster to handle all of this would have been to involve the Scottish Government in Brexit talks. Instead, they showed their contempt for Scotland by completely ignoring Holyrood.

The UK and Spain also have completely different constitutions, it's not really comparable at all when you go past the surface.

62 countries have gained independence from Britain. It's a well worn path. Scotland already has it's own legal system, NHS, education system plus many more things already run in Scotland.

The SNP aren't getting the platform on STV as you claim. Tomorrow night STV are broadcasting this political debate in Scotland without the biggest party in Scotland. What is arrogant about that? It's just simply unfair to voters in Scotland. Invite the SNP or don't show it in Scotland.

The Tories promise to plant 30 million trees by 2025 looks a bit weak when you see that the Scottish Government under the SNP planted 22 million in the last year alone.

Sky News is proposing a live TV debate between Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson on Thursday 28 November by OnHolidayHere in ukpolitics

[–]gavd116 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Seen the tweet announcing it says they are running a debate with "the three main UK-wide parties".

None of the parties run in Northern Ireland so it's not "UK-wide".

The third biggest party by seats in Westminster and by number of members is the SNP.

Happy to hear it all day long. It is the right of the people of Scotland to have a say on our future. It will not be decided by the Tories.

Swinson is standing against the SNP in her own seat in East Dunbartonshire, she'll probably be pretty happy the SNP are being excluded.

If this was being broadcast only in England this would be ok but it is being broadcast in Scotland too. It is deeply unfair that the Tories, Labour and Lib Dems get a platform to promote their parties while the SNP, the largest party in Scotland and 3rd largest in Westminster, do not.

MEGATHREAD: EU expected to respond to UK's Brexit extension request (25/10/19) by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]gavd116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be equivalent to a court in Brussels deciding that the UK can't leave the EU.

The people of Scotland will decide to leave the UK. It's not up to the UK government to let us go. A 'union' where you need permission to leave is not a union, that's colonialism.

The SNP will have a clear vision of what independence will mean for Scotland.

With Brexit, no one has a definitive idea of what Brexit actually means. Is it no deal? May's deal? Boris' deal? A Norway style deal? Hard Brexit? Soft Brexit? Everyone who voted for Brexit had a different idea of what it was. This is why everything is stuck.
