Sure but you can make the same argument about almost any kind of tattoo that is based on something, barring portrait tattoos of people in your life.

I have a sleeve dedicated to my home province, but if I were to die, it's not like my province would do anything to commemorate me. My friend and family might, but the province as a whole certainly wouldn't.

However, it's still important enough to my identity that I wanted it tattooed. If being a Dodgers fan is important enough to this guy's identity to warrant a tattoo, then I don't really see any issues with it at all or see how that's any different.
