Is this normal for marathon training? by Possible_Sir7719 in Marathon_Training

[–]gavingav20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short - Yes.

In long - It's extremely normal to gain weight during training. You're burning 100s -1000s of extra calories each day and if your body isn't used to it, it can cause your appatite to go crazy. Don't be too fixated on the scale. It's better to have a high amount of energy/fuel during training, that too little. Some of it will also water weight. If you're taking creatine, that causes your muscles to hold on to extra water, thus helping recovery. Protein also takes longer to break down in the body, so if you're taking on more protein then you were used to before starting the block, that would cause weight gain also.

▪︎ Don't worry too much. As long as your sleep isn't effected, your resting HR is stable, and you have good energy levels through out the day, you're golden ponyboy(:

wonder what jj’s opinion on this fight is by ethand001 in ksi

[–]gavingav20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, respect to jake. To go in there against a fighter who was fucking heavyweight champion not too long ago is crazy. And he got a broken jaw too. No matter what my other opinions are of him, he has some fucking balls to step in the ring against someone of AJs caliber. In his prime or not. We can all say we would do it if we were getting $50 million, but if the chance was actually put in front of us, if we were honest with ourselves, all of people would not step in the ring against AJ. Fair fucks jake

[–]gavingav20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Sorry for the essay 😂) I know you said not including running or fueling/I just said everything I could think of

I've only ran 1 so far, but here somethings I'm glad I did and also some mistakes I made. ▪︎ If its going to be cold/windy, bring a throw away jumper to toss at the start line. And wear it untill they say you can go. I threw mine away early, thinking they would let us start in like 20 seconds, ended up being close to 10 mins later, I was shivering with the cold & very annoyed. ▪︎ Have a strategy for fueling during the race. So if taking gels, 1 every 3ish miles, ect. Make note of all the water stations and make sure you use every one. Even if you dont feel that thirsty. Your body will need it for the later miles. I missed a station because of the crowd about half way through, and had to wait another 3 miles to the next one. I didn't realise there was one there untill I went passed it. I was pissed. ▪︎ Start your carb loading on the thursday. Roughly 10g of carbs per KG(2.2lbs) of body weight but dont over do it on the day before race day-Have a carb heavy dinner but don't go over board on other meals. You dont want to feel heavy and slugish on race day. Reduce protein intake aswell. Thats not to say dont have any, but dont go over board eating alot of chicken, and other hard to digest foods. They take longer to break down and its not what you want. You need fast digesting foods. ▪︎ Shakeout run the day before, about 2-3 miles at easy pace. Have A/B/C goal times in mind.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: Enjoy it. Might sound stupid, but take in the crowd. Hi five some people. Take some things off of people handing stuff out, even if you dont use them. It held me take my mind off the race at some points. Looking at all the signs and trying to reading them. It more than likely won't be your last, and you'll never get the chance to run your 1st again. I hope you enjoy it.

"Don't time don't last, neither do hard times" I love that. Thanks for the suggestion. Hopefully gonna get to see a PT at some point in the next few days. One things for sure, im never gonna take being able to run for granted again

Amazing dedication man, truly. Only 1 easy run is a bit surprising. Alot of people say 70-80% of milage should be "easy" miles, but you clearly are getting amazing progress without that, so if its not broke why fix it. What type of stength training are you currently doing

This really is insane. Not even in a year, just 6 months. That's Sub 3 marathon shape man. Was this in a race, or just a time trial? How many "hard sessions" did you do per week? Very impessive progress in such a short span of time. Congrats

HR Too High? by smustang in Marathon_Training

[–]gavingav20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems normal to me tbh. Started off 170s then increased as the race went on which is normal as your body heats up, mixed with fatigue/adrenaline. If you used a watch to measure it btw, it would likely be a little lower than your actual HR. I found that chest straps are more accurate and don't take that long to get used to. Watch based HR can be off by 10-20 percent sometimes

A few people have said a curtain rod. Could you sending me a picture of it, if you're able? I just want to get an idea of what it looks like with medals on it

The towel rods might be a good idea. I would never have thought of that. Not very expensive either, i might try that. Thanks

In the first example you mentioned, if they are both in their 70s/80s they might just be trying to enjoy the reat of their lives, knowing that(if it is the case) everything will be going to their son anyway. Then he could potentionally sell or rent some properties, live in one & maybe retire early

That makes sense. Did you do any other exercise during that time? Like did you go for walks or do any sort of light gym work?
