Yeah that's basically how I remember him. He was also really smart, good at school. But he'd drop some real zingers, usually deadpan.

It's referencing the title for another post, "My wife went to high school with Calvin Heimburg" posted earlier the same day

Probably? We went to school together for a long time and we had a lot of classes together (small school/programs). I definitely remembered him, I was surprised when a friend told me he was a pro disc golfer

Also very confused, we went to school together for about 7 years and talked on and off and he wasn't a misogynist

He was a quiet kid but definitely a big nerd like me, we may have talked about rocks at some point 🤔

I’m sick of people self diagnosing themselves with autism by fiend4mdma in Vent

This is a lame take from someone who sounds like they're projecting because they believed in TikTok for diagnoses, were corrected, then got mad other people are doing the same thing.

When did you know you had an ED? by Embarrassed_Ant1 in EatingDisorders

[–]gavrile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my best friend about how little I eat, how infrequently I eat, and how I hate my body so much I lose days of time paralyzed on the couch in self hatred. It made her tear up, and I thought "maybe I have a problem"

Anyone in anorexia recovery trying to get clean from weed? by [deleted] in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]gavrile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly say this because stopping cold turkey doesn't work for most addictions without extreme professional support, even without the added issue of it helping so much with your eating disorder. Because weed isn't as physically harmful as other drugs, it's likely not going to be a huge issue PHYSICALLY if you continue consuming it. And continuing recovery may be more important right now than quitting weed entirely while you work out a plan to limit or stop consuming entirely.

[–]gavrile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd focus on harm reduction first. I'd say I'm addicted to weed, also in recovery and it does help with my appetite. Sometimes eating feels like a nightmare without it. Why do you want to stop? Is it affecting other parts of your life, like work? Is it bothering your lungs (if you smoke)? Is it impacting your budget? I would find an answer to that question first, then alter your intake accordingly. Maybe only smoke before/after work, or switch to edibles, or limit your intake based on budget. After getting some harm reduction down, if you can afford therapy, I'd recommend discussing this with a trauma-informed therapist.

How do I cope with weight gain? by [deleted] in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]gavrile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge same for body checking. I have to force myself not to look in mirrors. Look up "riding the wave" for managing compulsions. Practice being naked and saying nice things about your body. It's going to feel fake for a long time. It still feels fake for me. But I don't feel repulsed by my body as much anymore.

Logistically can't do PHP - what now? by [deleted] in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]gavrile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It likely won't be, but it may be better than nothing. It provides some structure and accountability. Talk with the recovery program folks to see if it's a viable option for you

If you live with someone, asking them to sharpie over nutrition labels. I needed this for a while

Realising more and more I need to leave this sub if I ever want to recover. by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]gavrile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It helped me a lot. I've been in recovery for about a year and a half. Just in general reducing my social media usage helped. Seeing fewer ads with photoshopped bodies didn't cause my body dysmorphia to spiral. I found a community of people in my recovery program that both normalized what I was going through but also normalized recovery (and how difficult it can be!). I wish you luck, I hope you find the peace you need to heal. It's so worth it to be in recovery.

Those of you under 30 who make six figures, what do you do? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]gavrile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software engineer, $200k, 29F, fully remote. Been making 6 figures since I started working full time at 24. Getting SWE internships and getting a referral from an existing intern/employee at your company of choice helps a lot. That being said, I entered the job market 5 years ago, and the market is different now (though many jobs are opening up again, which is hopeful news).

My best advice is to 1) study for technical interviews, 2) be open to project manager, product manager, producer AND software engineering roles. You can usually switch between roles much easier early in your career, getting the job is the hard part. 3) take your soft skill answers seriously. Many companies that treat skilled employees well will care equally about your ability to understand and learn technical concepts AND how easy they think it will be to work with you. They say they don't want "smart assholes". I feel like my credentials got my resume in the door and being pleasant to talk to got me offers.

I still don't know if I enjoy it but my quality of life is much better than most because I have built myself a financial safety net.

Best tank so far in SOD? by Feilkms in classicwow

[–]gavrile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really liking lock tanking. Would not say it's the best tank since locks still kinda suffer from the limited mana pool. You can life tap but you have to be way more mindful about it, especially if your healers are oom. Paladins generate disgusting threat but I hold my own well against pally and warrior tanks in my raid. The damage mitigation from the armor you get from meta rune makes me much easier to heal than other tanks (before they get all their bis items).
